lOBaxdBd xngiLlwd. ILohdow, April 10—The latest information from Paris states that a strong mo Yemen t is being made in tbe (Jommuoe looking toward a speedy reconciliation with the government of Versailles Tbe Commaoiat Council have dispatched a representative to M. Thisrs, with power to regulate terms of eoUlement. The citj is becoming more quiet, and is fast assuming a peaceful aspect. The shops are being opened, and tbe people less diaturbed. Tbe strife is conceded to be near its conclu-
sion.
Glois Biioin, the notqrioui Bod, was arrested and put in close confinement by order of the Ccmmune Council of Paris, yesterday. Tbe Commune continue to qtiarrel among themselves, and in tbe disputes cause the mi*
| nerity to bo thrown into prison.
FRANCE.
YsasAitLia, April li—If* Fawre informed the assembly yesterday that Prussia had treattd the com mu aication received from the Commune with silent contempt, and had not vouchaaled an answer inrepljr to the conciliators suggestion they contained. The final collapse 08 tbe Commune is felt to be near. The government is daily gathering resowed hope and courage. No confidence whatever is felt in the resnlt of the peace negotiations now in progress between the Com mane and the government. This distrust is evident and general, and each side is preparingtor a grand and final struggle, which moat terminate in the extermination of the insurrectionary movement, and the dissolution of the revolutionary organisation now in Paris, or in disaster and overthrow to the government.

for loans or discounts.
Ben. F. Wade having closed his duties as President of the San Domingo Commission, returned to Ohio to-day. The testimony taken by the Commission is now at the Qovernmeni printing offi e and will make a large volume. Dr. Howe is still here and will probably remain until the testimony is
printed.
Senator Schurs will make a speech in the Senate, probably on Wednesday in favor of

The following shows the Treasury balance at the close of bosiae-s yesterday: Currency, $12,302,000; coin, $106 883,000, of which $24 6$t 000 were m certificates. The Secretary ot the Treasury has not yet decided whether the government will or will not pay transportation on base metal coins sent to the Philadeidhia mint for redemption. The probability is that transportation will hot bepaid by the j^ayevument. Tbe evasion of the tax on tobacco by the use of nnmaanfactnred leaf has grown into snch proportions that the revenue bureau is compelled to appeal to Congress for immediate legislation to remedy tbe evil. It is estimated that two filths of the tobacco now evades taxation through the medium of dealers in nnmanufactured 'articles. Mr. Platt, of Virginia. gives notice that he will at the first opportunity ask for the suspension of tbe rules and the adoption of aa amendment to the revenue laws, which will amend section 59, by inserting a ciuae providing that retail dealers in leaf tobacca shall each pay $500, and that every person shall be regarded as a retail dealt er in leaf tobacco who sells or offer* leaf tobacco other than ot his own growth or pro-
duction.
