down on a six yard pass from Matt LaFree for their scoring. Ed Pontius ran a 57-yard fumble return for the only Glenn touchdown for the night with six minutes remaining in the game. Bremen fumbled the ball two times in the game to none for the Falcons. The Lions were penalized for 40 yards and Glenn for 20 yards. The football sectionals begin this Friday in Indiana with the John Glenn Falcons to face North Newton at 7:30 p.m., in Morocco. UREY SPLITS TWO GAMES The Urey Falcons opened their final home stand by

splitting a pair of games with the visiting Culver Cavaliers. The opener saw the seventh grade team drop their first contest of the season 12-6 while the eighth grade decisively defeated the visitors 30-8. BATTLE OF THE UNBEATENS In what was billed as the Conference championship game and a “Battle of the Unbeatens,” the seventh grade Falcons dropped a close game to the Culver Cavaliers, 12-6. Culver scored on their first possession, taking a quick 6-0 lead. The extra point was stopped when Frank Andert intercepted a Culver pass and momentum briefly swung to the Falcons. Ryan Sheaks later scored what appeared to be the tying touchdown when he rambled 64 yards around the end following the block of Denny Emmons, but the play was called back on a Falcon holding penalty. The half ended with Jeremiah Whitmer batting down a Culver pass and Urey went into halftime trailing 6-0. The second half saw a battle of tough defense with strong play coming from linebackers Greg Engel and Josh Walker, who also played defensive line and tight end on offense. The Cavaliers broke through for another touchdown and again Urey stopped the extra point attempt. Trailing 12-0, the Falcons struck quickly as Glenn Stull took the kick off and sprinted 77 yards up the middle to score Urey’s only points. The seventh grade record now stands at 5-1. UREY 30 NEW PRAIRIE 8 Jason Coffman grabbed the opening kick off and rocketed 65 yards for his second return for a touchdown in as many games. Phil Crone bulled his way in for the extra points and the Urey eighth grade quickly led 8-0. The Cavaliers then drove down and knotted the score at eight before the Falcon offense began to dominate in the second quarter. Dustin Carpenter, making a rare appearance on the offensive side of the field, broke open on a 24 yard reverse that put the Falcons on top to stay, 14-8. Again, Crone added the extra points and it was Urey ahead 16-8. After a bad snap on a punt gave the Falcons excellent field position. Crone plowed in

from the one to extend the lead to 22-8. Jack Moerman booted the extra point to make the score 23-8. On the ensuing kick-off, Coffman recovered an on-side kick and it appeared as if the Falcons might score again. Chris Adkins turned a broken play into a big gain by following a devasting block by Jeff Alexander. Unfortunately, time ran out and Urey went to the half holding a 23-8 lead. The second half was dominated by a stingy defense that stopped the Cavaliers cold and a ball control offense that included a big 4.62 yard run by Alan (“Little Fridge”) Holland. The defense made some outstanding hits including one by Adkins in which he ‘de-cleated’ the Cavalier kick returner. The final score came about on a two play, 52 yard drive with Coffman carrying the ball both times, the last one for five yards and the score. Moerman kicked the extra point and the final score of 30-8. The offensive line of Jason Fraschetti, Jason Kaiser, Mike Bolze, Mike

Tomlin and Kacey Whitmer controlled the line of scrimmage for most of the game. Mike Podell, Ross Holland, Mike Wolff, Mike Beasley and Cliff Slater contributed both on offense and defense for the Falcons. The eighth grade record now stands at 4-3. JV VOLLEYBALL TEAM AT JGHS NOW AT 7-10 The junior varsity volleyball team for John Glenn upped its record to 7-10 with wins over Laville, Culver Girls Academy and South Central.
