Candidate number seven is Kara Rose Holmes. She is the daughter of Karen and Dan Holmes, of North Liberty and she has one brother. Kara is a senior at JGHS and is five foot three inches tall and has brown hair and eyes. She plans to attend I USB and her career ambition is in the medical field. Kara was chosen as the Girl State delegate alternate and she is a member of the Bluebirds. Kara’s honors, clubs and activities include French club, SADD, H.0.P.E., pep band, US history award, modern world civilization award, distinguished honor roll, ISSMA contest first and second division awards, academic letter, academic silver medallion, church youth group and sportsmanship award in softball. Her hobbies, sports and talents include the flute, piccolo, piano, softball, swimming, reading, shopping, babysitting and volunteer care for the elderly. Her favorite TV show is “Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman”; novel, “The Miracle Worker”; recording star, Michael W. Smith; personality of today: Oprah Winfrey and personality of the past: Florence Nightengale. Her favorite sports star is Kari Strugg. Kara will present a speech/song for her creative and performing arts presentation. Suzanne Jo Marie Drews is Jr. Miss candidate number eight. She is the daughter of Ray and Sharon Halsey, of Tyner and David Drews, of Walkerton. She has two brothers. Suzanne has brown hair and eyes and stands five foot, five inches tall. She is a senior at JGHS and her career ambition is psychology and her choice for college is Ball State U. She is a member of the student council and was sophomore class board member. Other high school honors, clubs and activities include SADD, Spanish club (officer), varsity cheerleading (3 years), and member of the volleyball team. Her hobbies, sports and talents include volleyball, cheerleading, marching band, concert band, shopping and spending time with friends. Her favorite TV show is “Scooby-Doo”; her favorite novel is “Flowers In The Attic”; personality of today: Dominique Moceanu and of the past: Beethoven and sports star is Karch Kiraly. Suzanne tells us she has no favorite recording star. For her creative and performing arts presentation she will present a dance/gymnastics routine. Candidate number nines is Ruth Elizabeth Touhey, a senior at JGHS and the daughter of Fran Touhey, of North Liberty. She has one sister. Ruth is five foot, seven inches tall with brown hair and eyes. Although her college choice is undecided at this time, her career ambition is to be editor-in-chief of a publication. She is a member of the National Honor Society and the Girl Scouts. Other high school honors, clubs and activities indude orchestra, pep band, marching band, concert band, ecology club, Humans for Earth, HOPE, HEART, Spanish club (secretary), multi-culturial society, academic decathlon (state medalist), yearbook (editor ’96-’97), newspaper and Aerial literary magazine. Her hobbies, sports and talents include cello, saxophone, track, swimming, reading, playing music, learning foreign languages, watching movies, playing cards, learning new interesting things and watching her niece and nephew. Her favorites include “Jeopardy” as her TV show, novel, “The Secret Garden,” recording star, Alanis Morisettee; personality of today: Oprah Winfrey; past: Walter Cronkite and sports star, Reggie Miller. For her creative and performing arts, Ruth will present a poetic skit of “Casey At The Bat.” Jackie Rae Hathaway is candidate number 10. She is the daughter of John Hathaway II and Frances Janette Hathaway, Walkerton. She has four sisters and one brother. With brown/red hair and brown eyes, Jackie stands five foot one inch tall and she is a senior at JGHS. Her career ambition is elementary education and she plans

Her high school clubs and activities include choir, ecology club, FHA, honor roll, Helping Our Peers Excel (H.0.P.E.), Junior board, publications: yearbook, newspaper, Aeiral; SADD and Spanish club. Her hobbies, sports and talents include photography for newspaper, Poms, writing poetry, Sunday school teacher, president of youth group. 4-H, volunteer work at work camps and CROP (Walk for the Hungry). Some of Jackie’s favorites include, “Roseanne” the TV show; the novel, “Sybil,” recording star: John Lennon; personality of today: Drew Barrymore and past: Mohandas Gandhi and sports star: Iksana Baiul. For her creative and performing arts Jackie will be singing “How Great Thou Art.”
