Brad Stooks To Play For Dartmouth College Brad Stooks, a senior at Bradshaw Mountain High School, son Os Russell and Jackie Stooks, formerly of Walkerton, has made a committment to play basketball for Dartmouth College for the 1997-98 academic year, in Hanover, New Hampshire. Stooks attended St. Patrick’s School, in Walkerton, thru the fifth grade before moving with his family to Arizona. His parents were owners of American Door Company, here in Walkerton, and relocated to Arizona in 1988. Brad will be a four-year varsity starter on the basketball team where he already holds all of the schools scoring records and should end his high school career scoring over 2,000 points and breaking the Arizona State three-point field goal record. Not only is Brad known for his long range shooting ability but for his academic standout as well as he is ranked number one in his senior class of 231 students and has a 4.0 grade point average.

Brad is only 11 baskets away from the three-point field goal record for the state of Arizona. He is five foot nine inches tall and plays point guard for the BMHS. Stooks introduction to college basketball will be very interesting as Dartmouth is scheduled to open it’s 1997-98 season at North Carolina. Dartmouth was third in the Ivy League behind Princeton and Penn last season. TRICYCLE RACE WINNERS ANNOUNCED The Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa sponsored a tricycle race during the recently held Great Pumpkin Festival, here in Walkerton. The race was held on Saturday, Oct. 5 with the children taking their marks, getting set, and going for the honors. Place finishers for each category are as follows: 2 & 3 Year Olds First place, Danny Francis; second place, Brandon Green and third place, Charlie Dreessen. 4 Year Olds First place went to Jacy Borlik, second to Michael Zehner and third to Dori Borlik. 5 & 6 Year Olds First place winner was
Doc Borlik, second, Kacee Berg and third, Kelsey Dreessen. 7 Yrs. & Up First place winner was Bethany Green, second Jessica Bielawski and third, Krystal Latham. Also participating in the races were Katie Dreessen, Ashly Koday, Alan Lee Davis, Joe Harper and Bonnie Mason. O-D CHICKEN BAR-B-Q SAT., OCT. 19 The Oregon-Davis High School boys basketball team will sponsor a Port-A-Pit Chicken Bar-B-Que, on Sat., October 19, from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at a price of $3.50 for carryout half of chicken and a meal will be $5.00. Chili Cook-Off Set For Saturday Oct. 12 At Legion The Walkerton American Legion Post 189 will be holding their second annual Chili Cook-Off, in memory of Vern Hanson, on Saturday, Oct. 12, at the post home.
