The third quarter was all New Prairie’s with the Cougars scoring on a 24 yard run by Steve Bostelman. The kick failed. The fourth quarter was a busy one with both teams scoring. First it was Groves for John Glenn on a oneyard run and a kick by Strang for seven points. This was followed by a two yard run by John DuPont for the Cougars for six points. The run failed making the final score 17-12 in favor of the Falcons in this NSC game. The team will play Mishawaka Marian on Monday, Oct. 14, at 6:00 p.m., in Mishawaka. JG FRESHMAN DEFEAT COUGARS IN SHUT-OUT The freshman football team for JGHS defeated New Prairie, 24-0, on Thursday, Oct. 3, here in Walkerton. lan Tribbey scored two touchdowns on runs of 61 and 12 yards while Travis Goforth also scored on an eight-yard run. The Falcons were a perfect three for three converting extra points. Passes from Chris Tetzlaff to Sean Humphrey and Brad Hartsell accounted for two two-pointers. Tribbey ran in the other point after touchdown (PAT). Humphrey and Tetzlaff
each had one interception and Goforth scooped up a Cougar fumble knocked loose by Jeremy Waldron. The freshman record is now 5-1 with the final game being against Bremen on Thursday, Oct. 17, at Bremen with kick-off set for 6 p.m. JG VARSITY VOLLEYBALL TEAM GOES 1-2 THIS WEEK The John Glenn varsity volleyball completed a tough week of action by going 1-2. Glenn never got it going as they fell to Plymouth 15-8, 15-9. Defensively Lindsay O’Connor and Beth Honaker combined for eight digs while Honaker and Jennifer Traub added eight and four blocks, respectively. Offensively, Danielle Ludwig had four service aces, O’Connor added four assists and Honaker contributed six kills. LaPorte traveled to Walkerton as the Falcons faced another tough roadblock on their schedule. Glenn competed well early but the 12th ranked Slicers were too much as they prevailed 15-7, 15-2. Danielle Ludwig had eight digs, O’Connor had five assists and Honaker added eight blocks. Honaker and Heidi Wasterey also contributed four and three kills, respectively. The Falcons got back on the winning streak by defeating Knox 15-3, 15-2. This one was never in doubt as Glenn dominated from the outset. Danielle Ludwig’s serving was pivotal as she was 17 of 18 with 16 points, Lindsay O’Connor’s 12 assists set up a Falcon attack which saw Beth Honaker with eight kills, Heidi Wasterney with five kills and Holly Legge with two kills. Glenn is now 9-11 overall and 4-1 in the Northern State Conference. UREY OVERPOWERS SOUTH CENTRAL The Urey eighth grade football team was led by Chris Adkins who scored four touchdowns and kicked an extra point in the 41-12 victory over South Central in a non-conference game held on Oct. 1. Adkins first touchdown came on a 95-yard interception return just as it looked as if the host Satellites would score first. A Phil Crone run for the extra points gave Urey an 8-0 lead that they would never surrender. South Central scored on the ensuing kickoff but the Urey defensive middle lead by Jason Fraschetti, Tom Bolze and Mike Tomblin stopped the extra point attempt and the Falcon lead was cut to 8-6. Alan Holland snagged the
South Central kickoff and returned it to almost midfield, setting up an impressive Urey scoring drive that ended with a 14-yard Adkins touchdown run off tackle. That was followed by another Crone run for the extra points and a 16-6 lead. After a strong defensive stand highlighted by a Mike Podell tackle for a loss, the Falcon offense took command. Jason Coffman powered in from the six to complete the drive. A penalty nullified Jack Moerman’s extra point kick and his 35-yard attempt was long enough but a little wide, leaving the Urey lead at 22-6. The final score in the first half came on a 36 yard run by Adkins, made possible by a tremendous block by tight end Dustin Carpenter. Crone added an interception at the end of the half to stop another South Central threat. The Satellites scored on the first play of the second half making the score 2812, but once again the Falcon defense stopped the exta points on a Carpenter interception. Adkins final touchdown, a 46-yard run, was set up by an alert Kasey Whitmer who picked up a Falcon fumble and rambled 14 yards for a first down to ignite the offense. The extra point attempt failed and the Falcon led was 34-12. Big defensive plays by Mike Wolff, Ross Holland and Jeff Alexander helped keep the Satellites pinned in their own territory for the remainder of the game. The last score was made by Crone on an 11 yard quarterback sneak, with Adkins kicking the extra point. The final score was 41-12 in favor of the Falcons. Fine performances were also put in by Mike
