Ten of the areas most outstanding young women will compete on Saturday, October 12, for the prestigious title of Walkerton’s Junior Miss for 1996 at 7:00 p.m., at the John Glenn High School auditorium. These young women will vie for scholarships and awards. These young women have been working very hard during many hours of. rehearsals and preparation. When asked the question. “What do you hope to gain by entering the Jr. Miss program?,’’ the girls answered, “to have fun meeting new people, to make it a challenging and exciting new experience, to make new friends, to build self-esteem, to perform physical fitness and poise routines and to share a new experience with others.” By observing these young ladies these past few weeks, many have found what they were looking for! Walkerton. Past Junior Miss participants and winners have been invited to attend this special night. Mr. Dick Fansler will be the master of ceremonies for the program. Mr. Fansler is a JGHS English teacher who resides in Walkerton. As one of the highlights of the evening, Mr. Fansler will perform on stage prior to the final curtain call. . Tickets will be available at the box office the night of the program for $7.00 each. The new Walkerton Junior Miss will participate in this year’s Indiana Junior Miss Program, in Frankfort. If selected to represent the state, she will participate in the national finals which are held in Mobile, Alabama. The America’s Junior Miss Scholarship Program is made possible nationally through the generous support of Coca-Cola USA.

Mr. Hiatt and Mary Lou Widup were married on Oct. 12, 1946, in South Bend. They have three children: Marilyn Sherland, of Walkerton; Bill Hiatt, of Hendersonville, North Carolina and Nancy Turner, of St. Clair Shores, Michigan. They also have four grandchildren. Horse Drawn Rides At Festival HL jrrrtjgf* The Great Pumpkin Festival on this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 4-6, at St. Patrick School grounds will be featuring Richard Hesters and Terry Newhart with their horsedrawn rides to and from the carnival area to the school grounds. They will be using Haflinger horses. This breed was imported from Austria in 1958 by Templeton Farms, in Illinois. Mr. Hesters raises Haflingers.
