FRESHMAN TEAM WINS THIRD NSC GAME THURSDAY The John Glenn freshman football team raised its record to 3-1 (3-0 in the
Northern State Conference) with a 28-0 victory over Triton on Thursday, Sept. 19th. Travis Goforth scored three touchdowns on runs of 12, 30 and 42 yards. Chris Tetzlaff scampered 36 yards for the Falcon’s final touchdown. Extra points were added by Tetzlaff and Matt Alspaugh. Mike Alexander intercepted a pass, while Goforth, Jeremy Waldron and Jesse Payne sacked the Trojan quarterback. UREY FALCONS SPLIT IN HOME OPENER Playing in their first home game of this season, the Urey Falcons won the opener with a 25-0 victory over visiting LaVille, before dropping the finale, 30-6. Seventh Grade Action There was never any doubt about the outcome of the seventh grade game as the Falcons scored quickly and often in their 25-0 victory over LaVille. After fumbling on their first possession, the Falcons scored on the first play of their second possession; a 93-yard run by Ryan Sheaks. - Thv^defense.then stepped up the pressure on the Lancers, when Nolan Garrett intercepted a LaVille pass behind the line of scrimmage and returned it 56yards for the Falcons second score. Garrett then kicked the extra point to stretch the lead to 13-0. Sheaks then scored on another long run, which was set up by some tough inside running by fullback Chris Keck. Urey completed it’s scoring with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Will Groves to Jeff Aldrich prior to the half. The second half was dominated by the defense, anchored by the linebacking crew of Aldrich, Groves, Jeremy McCoige and Greg Engel. Engel also quarterbacked the team through most of the second half, as Urey went into a ball control offense. As has been the case in their previous victories, credit must be given to those offensive and defensive linemen, including Bob Egger, Kyle Lichtenbarger, Derek Daube, Kyle O’Dell, Dan Ramsey and Don Walls. James Fry added a key pass reception late in the game to sustain a drive. The seventh grade Falcons improve their record to 3-0 with their first shutout. EIGHTH GRADE ACTION In the nightcap, the

Falcons were overwhelmed by the Lancers, 30-6. LaVille took advantage of some early Falcon errors to amass a 22-0 halftime lead. The Falcons got on the scoreboard in the second half with a long touchdown run by fullback Jason Coffman, who turned in his best offensive performance this season. Urey was lead both otfensively and defensively by Chris Adkins, who turned in another outstanding performance at both tailback and linebacker. A last minute substitute at the offensive line position, Jamie Burger also played a fine game. Jack Moerman played well on special teams. The eighth grade record drops to 1-2. JV FALCONS DOWN TRITON On Saturday morning, Sept. 21, admist the pouring rain, the John Glenn Junior Varsity football team defeated Triton, 8-2. Scoring Glenn’s touchdown and two point conversion was Sean Denham. The defense played an outstanding game as a unit; they didn’t allow Triton’s offense to score. The Trojans were given their two points by the Falcon offense on a strategic safety. This stroke of genius was supplied by coach Drotar. JG VARSITY WINS THREE The John Glenn varsity volleyball team completed a strong week by winning three matches. Glenn traveled to New Prairie for a NSC battle and came away with a 15-13, 12-15, 15-10 victory. Glenn’s offensive attack was led by Beth Honaker’s 16 kills, Holly Legge’s six kills, Heidi Wasteney six kills, Lindsay O’Connor’s 17 assists and Kristin Miller’s eight assists. Defensively Suzanne Drews was 12 for 16 passing while O’Connor and Miller combined for 12 digs and Honaker and Jennifer Traub combined for 14 blocks. Wasteney added
14 service points and two aces. Triton tournament champion team Argos was the Falcons next victim falling to Glenn 15-2, 15-11. Serving was a key as Wasteney and Miller combined for 26 or 28 serving with 23 points and 7 aces. Offensively Honaker had seven kills while Heidi Lynn and Heidi Wasteney added two apiece. Wasteney was also 10 for 12 passing while O’Connor contributed 10 assists. Honaker and Jennifer Traub continued blocking very well by combining for nine blocks. Bremen traveled to Walkerton on Monday for a key NSC match-up with Glenn outscoring the Lions, 9-15, 15-10, 15-8 for the win. A balanced offensive attack saw Wasteney, Honaker and Legge combining for 16 kills. The setting tandem of Miller, O’Connor continued to improved the performance with 12 and seven assists respectively. Danielle Ludwig and O’Connor combined for 11 service aces that helped to put away the Lions. Defensively Drews had 11 digs while Honaker added six blocks.
