Approve 1996-97 Contracted Bus Salaries A motion was made by McCormick, seconded by Robert Schaeffer, to approve the 1996-97 contract bus salaries as follows: Level 1, $89.92; Level 2, $95.48; Level 3, $100.99; Level 4, $106.55. The executive session adjourned at 9:45 p.m. Sports News JG VOLLEYBALL SPLITS A PAIR The John Glenn varsity volleyball team split a pair of matches this past week. Glenn won its home opener by defeating South Bend Washington 15-13, 15-12. Holly Legge and Beth Honaker led the Lady Falcons offense with seven and five kills respectively. Kristin Miller added seven assists while Suzanne Drews and Lindsay O’Connor combined for 11 digs. Heidi Wasteney led in serving with two aces. The Falcons traveled to South Bend Clay and fell 15-9, 15-6. The Falcon attack was never able to get on track as Clay dominated from the outset. Holly Legge contributed three kills while Lindsey O’Connor added three assists. Beth Honaker led in blocking with two and passing going nine for 11.

JV VOLLEYBALL TEAM DROPS TWO The junior varsity volleyball team dropped two close matches last week to South Bend Washington and Clay. Scores for the Washington game were 157, 5-15, 11-15. Leading the way in serving was Tammy Wasteney who was 14 of 15 with six aces. Lynna Potts was perfect in serving with 11 for 11. Becca Strahm led in serve receive, passing 12 of 12. Although the Lady Flacons showed more team work against Clay, they dropped the match, 13-15, 15-13 and 9-15. Katie Pletcher and Alyssa Fuentes were perfect in serving. Pletcher was 16 of 16 with five aces while Fuentes was 12 of 12 with two aces. Fuentes also led in passing with 18 of 20. Becca Strahm was 17 of 19 in passing. Offensively, Stephanie Flaugher led the team with three kills. Katie Pletcher did a good job of stepping in to set for Lynna Potts, who was injured near the end of game two. The junior varsity record drops to 0-3. They face St. Joseph and North Judson this week. JV FOOTBALL DEMOLISH KNOX On Saturday, September 7, the John Glenn junior varsity football team demolished Knox, 57-0. Defensively the Falcons had five interceptions: two by Harry Ganser, one by Mike Miser for a touchdown and one each by Dan Holmes and Bryan Gensinger. Jake Medich and Adam Allsop each had a quarterback sack and Allsop blocked a punt offensively. Craig Stedman threw a touchdown pass and scored twice on two point conversions; Sean Denham scored three touchdowns and the big gun, Bryan Gensinger, rushed for over 200 yards and scored four touchdowns and two two-point conversions in this game. The team finally “walked the walk.” Their recrod is now 1-1. UREY FOOTBALL TEAMS SPLIT AT JIMTOWN The Urey Falcons opened the 1996 season with a split at Jimtown. In the first game, the 7th grade topped the Jimmies 20-8 while the Bth grade dropped the finale by the score of 34-0. In the opener, the Falcons scored quickly on a Ryan Sheaks punt return of 72 yards, putting them on top by a score of 6-0 in the

first quarter. Later, in the second quarter, the Falcons scored on a long pass from Will Groves to Jeff Aldrich, resulting in a 12-0 halftime lead. Urey was aided by a Chris Keck interception late in the quarter that stopped a Jimmie drive. In the second half, the Falcons scored on a long run by Sheaks, which was set up be another Groves to Aldrich pass. Groves and Aldrich then combined for the two-point conversion. Late in the game, the offensive linemen Nolan Garrett, Dan Ramsey, Kyle O’Dell, Don Walls, Jeremy McCoige and Peter Adams controlled the clock as the Falcons rolled to their first win. McCoige and Aldrich anchored a tough defense that included some good play at outside linebacker from Greg Engel. The final score was Falcons 20 to Jimtown’s 8. In the nightcap, the Falcons were overpowered by the Jimmies, 34-0. The Jimmies jumped to a quick lead and built it up to the

Leading the Falcons on offense were Chris Adkins at tailback, who also completed a pair of passes to Mike Podell. Jason Coffman and Phil Crone also played well on offense. Defensively the Falcons were led by Adkins and Jason Fraschetti, getting some deep help by Dustin Carpenter and Cliff Slater.
