■LOfW F^p^:&RE?>Z - ” agrafe ■ ARWDSMmH : llWllßillip-|lß<' wt ■wt Wednesday, August 21, 1996 An Open Letter Os Concern On August 20, 1996, under the veil of secrecy, a group of North Liberty Business Men met with the Pokagon Band of the Patowatomi Indians to discuss plans to develop and open a Gambling Casino in or near North Liberty. How is it that a few men that have no direct responsibility to the citizens of North Liberty speak to the Indians on behalf of the citizens? This reveals an attitude of arrogance coupled with greedy desires to amass money off the weaknesses and vices of others. This is commonly referred to as COVETOUSNESS. After numerous Cities, Towns and villages across southern Michigan and Northern Indiana have said “NO” because they have recognized the plight and wrong of such business ventures, why should greedy Business men be presumptuous that North Liberty will approve of it? Gambling is a moral wrong that has destroyed the homes and fortunes of others. It breeds other crimes such as: vice, robbery, prostitution, drugs and gang control. Yes, there may be people who would lik to gamble, but why must a community for the sake of a few dollars be winning to prostitute their values. It is a sad state of affairs when men dream of money and sell off good moral and righteous values, while plunging the geographical area into the abysmal pit of (what they would consider) “Amorality.” We, as a Church, oppose the opening of a Gambling Casino in the North Liberty area and will actively work against the development of Gambling Casinos. North Liberty does not need the immoral values of Gambling nor that which rides upon it’s back. Yours In Christ Ernest L. Fiebig Pastor Paid Adv.
