Congratulations DALE WILDHART On Your New Custom Built Home By HOMES Randy How To Talk To Your Kids About Sex Sept. 12 At times, many parents today wish they were raising their children during a different time in history. Guiding children through their youth seems to be more challenging than it was for past generations. Certain issues are difficult or uncomfortable to discuss because children are aware of them at a much younger age and parents aren’t sure how much to tell them. Also, peers seem to have such a strong influence over kids. Still, most parents want their children to learn the truths at home and know how to communicate those truths effectively to their children. On Thursday, Sept. 12, the Women’s Care Center, Women’s and Family Services of Saint Joseph’s Medical Center and the WNDU Stations will sponsor HOW TO TALK TO YOUR KIDS ABOUT SEX, 7-9 p.m. at Century Center, Recital Hall, downtown South Bend. The program is free and open to the public. Free parking is also available. Pat Socia, a national workshop presenter for the Medical Institute for Sexual Health, will be the special guest speaker. Socia’s practical tips on developing healthy sexual attitudes have been offered to parents and teens throughout the country. Her Erma Bom-beck-style of wit and wisdom has been well received by audiences from Texas to Washington to Georgia. Socia focuses on the importance of teaching our children to wait until marriage to have sex. Because she conducts workshops for nearly 250,000 teens every year, she knows how to accurately address the real concerns felt by the kids of this generation. The Women’s Care Center sponsored a presentation by Socia for Mishawaka High School students last April. After receiving such a positive response, the Center is pleased and excited to bring her back to share her message with parents. Through this program parents can learn an effective approach to discussing sexual activity
and prepare their children with the reasons to say no to early sexual activity. The Women’s Care Center is a crisis pregnancy center and the community leader in teaching abstinence to 5,000 area school children. Whether their kids are six or sixteen, parents will benefit from this free program. Advance registration is requested to ensure adequate seating. Call ASK-A-NURSE at Saint Joseph’s Medical Center, 219-288-9977, for more information.
