Yard Waste Collection Site Ready For Use The Town of Walkerton’s new Yard Waste Collection site is ready for resident use. The collection bunkers which are located on State Road 23, north, between the Town’s Utility garage and Skelgas. One bunker will be used as a drop off site for yard wastes. Grass clippings, leaves, hedge trimmings, plants and flowers will be accepted. The Town plans to continue the annual leaf collection program in the fall. We ask that residents empty the bags and containers used to transport the materials, and not leave them at the collection site. The remaining bunkers will have compost and wood chips for residents to pickup. The area next to the bunkers will be used to accept limbs and brush. Limbs must be six-feet long, or less. The Town will no longer accept any items at the previously used drop off areas. Items not acceptable include tires, trash, shingles or any type of construction debris. For additional information regarding the collection site, please contact the clerk-treasurer’s office at 586-3711, Mon.-Fri. *The Solid Waste Management District of St. Joseph County provided funding for the collection site. To Perform At Potato Creek State Park Tuxedo Junction brings the music of the 1940’s to life with the big band sound of its twelve to fifteen band members on Saturday, August 31, at 7 p.m. at the boat rental lawn. You are invited to bring the family to either of these presentations. The standard $2.00 fee per car ($5.00 for out of state license plates) will be charged at the gate. St. Patrick School Celebrates 40th Anniversary Recently mil & m - y- A
Alumni, School Families, Parishioners and Staff gathered to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of St. Patrick School. Part of the celebration included a rededication of the school and a naming of the School Hall. The afternoon began with Mass at the Parish Church. Father Michael Winkowski, C.PP.S., pastor, presided; Sister Mary Jane Knitter, SSJ-TOSF, led the singing by playing the organ. From church, participants moved to the School Hall. Mr. Kevin Huffstetter served as master of ceremonies. Speakers included Father Anthony Letko, who served as St. Patrick’s pastor for 40 years. Father Winkowski, read the dedication. Mr. Dennis Holland unveiled the bronze plaque that will be placed as cornerstone on the school. The plaque reads: St. Patrick School Established 1956 Pastor: Father Anthony L. Letko Principal: Sister Mary Clementine Prymula Rededicated July 6, 1996 Father Winkowski announced the formal naming of the School Hall as the Anthony L. Letko Hall, to honor Father Letko who founded and built the school. Sister Dian Majsterek, current principal, presented Sister Mary Clementine Prymula a plaque honoring her role as first principal and as principal who served for 25 years at the school. Alumni and current members of St. Patrick Church and School mingled through the school where memorabilia and pictures served to refresh memories and to spark an exchange of ideas for future gatherings. Plans for the School’s 50th Anniversary began over the hog roast and music that brought the celebration to a close. Hunter/Gun Safety Classes To Be Offered At PCSP Hunter Education Classes have been planned for the public and mandatory for all Indiana residents born after December 31, 1986, who wish to hunt in Indiana. The classes will be held at the Nature Center at Potato Creek State Park. There will be no entrance fee . for students to enter the park. The classes will begin at 6:00 p.m. and end at approximately 9:00 p.m. and the dates of the classes will be on Thursday, August 29th; Friday, September 6 and Thursday, September 12. There will be handout material, movies and videos to help teach firearm safety, hunter ethics, wildlife identification and survival skills. There is no pre-registration required for the classes and all ages are welcome. Women's Show Set For Sept. 6-8 More than 150 exhibits featuring products and services designed to make a woman’s life healthier, happier and easier will be part of the WOMEN’S •SHOW to be held on Sept. 6 through the 8, at the Century Center, in South Bend. The show is sponsored by WSBT, Martin’s Supermarkets and Memorial Hospital. Celebrities, including Naomi Judd, informative seminars, beauty demos, health screenings, good pavilion, fitness demos and more will be featured. The show will be on Friday, Sept. 6, from 12 noon until 9 p.m.; on Saturday, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sunday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Admission is $5.00 at the door, $4 with discount coupon available at Martin’s Supermarkets; children under eight are free.
