GOLDEN HALSEY Golden Halsey, 78, of 17834'/a Main Street, Tyner, passed away at 1:35 p.m., on Sunday, July 21, at St. Mary’s Community Hospital, South Bend, after a sudden illness. She was born on July 30, 1917, in Breathlitt County, Kentucky. She had lived here for three years coming from Van Cleve, Kentucky. Surviving is a daughter, Rosie Clark, of Rooster, Ohio; two sons, Ray, of Tyner and M.C. Parks, of Van Cleve, KY. Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton, with Rev. Paul Mcßride officiating. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. She was preceded in death by a brother, Loyd Parks. GILBERT SINGLETON Gilbert L. (Gib) Singleton, 91, of 29551 State Road 4, North Liberty, passed away at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, at the Mayflower Care Center, Plymouth, after an extended illness. He was born on Sept. 21, 1904, in North Judson and lived in North Liberty for 66 years. He married the former Violet I. Harness on June 14, 1930, in Knox, who survives. He was a former railroad worker and retired from Hass Wholesale, South Bend. Also surviving is a daughter, Carolyn Mitchell, of South Bend; a son, Gerald R., of North Liberty; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Dorothy Huling, of Newport, Washington. He was preceded in death by five brothers and two sisters. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday at the A. M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, with Rev. Norman L. Replogle, pastor of the Pine Creek Church of the Brethren with burial in Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. BRENDA SINGLETON KING Brenda Singleton King, 34, of 9629 E. 650 N, Walkerton, passed away at 2:31 a.m. on Friday, July 19, in Memorial Hospital, South Bend, following an auto accident. She was born on June 26, 1962, in Walkerton. Suriving is a daughter, Rachel Marie, at home; her father, Jack Singleton, of Knox; her mother, Gloria Singleton, of Knox; her stepmother, Marielena Singleton, of Knox; six brothers, John Jr., Chris, Gary and Kevin, all of Knox, Robert, of North Judson and Byron, of Grovertown; two sisters, Karen Sobieck, of Knox and Margie Martin, of Walkerton and several nieces and nephews. Services were held at 1:00 p.m. at the Rannells Funeral Home, Hamlet Chapel, with Pastor Gerald Shadrix, officiating. Burial was in the Fletcher Cemetery, Hamlet. MARRIED Pamela Jean Popovic, North Liberty and Gary Richard Hawblitzel, Warsaw, were united in marriage at 3:30 p.m., on
Saturday, May 11, at the First Presbyterian Church, Warsaw. Pastor Roger Weir officiated at the double-ring ceremony in the presence of 300 guests. a. & I The bride is the daughter of Thomas and Donna Popovic, North Liberty. The bridegroom’s parents are Tom and Sara Hawblitzel, of Warsaw. Wedding music was provided by organist Darlene Skinner and soloist was Byron Craft. The bride wore a satin gown with a bodice of pearls and sequins with long sleeves and an off-the-shoulder, sweetheart neckline, the gown featured a train edged with brocade lace. The bride wore a headband of pearls with a detachable, waist-length veil. She carried a cascading bouquet of white and mauve roses with draping lace. Matron of honor was Rhonda Vandall. Bridesmaids were Jennifer Van Haver, Kari Shafer and Tracie Hawblitzel, sister-in-law of the groom. The attendants wore teal gowns with white scalloped overlays off the shoulder. They carried bouquets of । white and mauve roses with draping ribbons and lace. ' The flower girl was Chelsey McMenemy, cousin of the bride and Nicky Buzas, cousin of the bride, was the ring bearer. Best man was Steve Hawblitzel, brother of the groom. Groomsmen were Tom Popovic, brother of the bride, Bob Buelow and T.J. Hawblitzel, brother of the groom. Serving as ushers were Matt Popovic, cousin of the bride and Jay Winchester. Susan Wise, cousin of the groom, attended the guest book. High School and in 1996 she earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Indiana University of South Bend. A 1987 Warsaw Community High School graduate, the groom graduated from Indiana University of South Bend in 1995 with a bachelor of science degree in elementary education. He is currently employed as an elementary teacher at Lincoln School, in Warsaw. Following a trip to Daytona Beach, Florida, the couple reside in Warsaw. ENGAGED a. Rebecca Michell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steven Michell, of Walkerton, will exchange marriage vows with Jeremy Pugh, son of Susan Sons, Walkerton and Darlas Pugh, of New Carlisle, on August 24, 1996. The couple both attended John Glenn High School with Jeremy in the class of 94 and Rebecca in the class of 95. They plan on residing in Walkerton after their marriage.
