BIRTH A son was born on July 14 to Robin and Erin Harper, of Walkerton. He has been named Edward James and weighed in at six pounds and 11 ounces. Eddie was welcomed home by his big brother, Joey. Paternal grandparents are Jim and Genie Harper, of Walkerton. Maternal grandparents are Tom and Gail Houlihan, of Grand Rapids, Michigan and maternal great-grandmother is Gertrude Houlihan, of LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Joyce A. Lindsley and Richard R. Hall announce the birth of their nine pound and one ounce baby girl, Faith Marie, born in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 23, 1996. Maternal grandparents are Sherry and Jeff White, of Walkerton and Michael and Donna Lindsley, of Piedmont, South Carolina. Paternal grandparents are William and Rhoda Hall, of Plymouth and Patricia Dunning, of Omaha. Morgan Rilee Eggleston was born on July 6, 1996, at Memorial Hospital to Andrea and Kenny Eggleston, of Walkerton. She weighed in at eight pounds and five ounces and measured 21 inches long. GREASE IS THE WORD AT FIREFLY On Friday, July 19 and Saturday, July 20, Firefly ushers in a “blast from the past” when the exuberant musical Grease, produced by the South Bend Community School Corporation and sponsored by Ameritech, transports festival-goers back to an age when poodle skirts and saddle shoes were all the
rage. The show begins at 8 p.m. Ever-so-sweet Sandy, leather-jacket-clad Danny and the entire Rydell High gang will take the Firefly Festival audience on a rollercoaster of teenage highs and lows, with handjiving smash hits like “Greased Lightning” and “You’re The One That 1 Want.” The multi-talented group of young actors, musicians, dancers and tech crew is drawn from a wide range of Michiana schools. In fact, this year was a record breaker in the history of regional auditions with over 230 young adults auditioning for Grease this past April. The South Bend Community School Corp, production has a lot of surprises and some spectacular effects in store, from dancing bears to roller skating beauticians; from high octane energy production numbers to special blacklight effects. Meridian St. (corner of Michigan and Meridian) in downtown Indianapolis. Museum hours are Wednesday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. SERVICE NOTE Navy Fireman Michael D. Nimon, a 1994 graduate of John Glenn High School, Walkerton, has departed his home port in Mayport, Florida, for a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean and Adriatic Seas onboard the guided missile frigate USS Mclnerney. Nimon is one of 300 sailors on the frigate who are operating as part of the standing Naval Forces, Atlantic, a NATO task force. Nimon’s ship is a combatant ship designed to protect amphibious expeditionary forces, underway replenishment groups and merchant convoys from undersea attack. In addition to torpedoes, frigates carry helicopters that have sonar and torpedo capability and expand the ship’s reach. While in the Adriatic Sea, Nimon and his shipmates are helping NATO units to enforce U.N. Security Council sanctions against Bosnia. Kring has graduated from the armor crewman course at Fort Knox, Radcliff, KY. The course is designed to teach the crewman to serve as a member of an armor unit in defensive and offensive combat operations. In addition to basic combat training, the soldier was taught to drive the armored weapon, load and fire the weaponry, perform ammunition supply duties and to process intelligence and operations data. Hampton has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force Reserve to the rank of senior master sergeant. Hampton is an instructor at the Travis Air Force Base, in Fairfield, California.
