Melissa Lung Saves 3 Year Old From Drowning Melissa Lung, 16, a member of the lifeguard staff at Potato Creek State Park, 25601 State Road 4, North Liberty, made a quick rescue of little threeyear old Alicia Mast, on Saturday, July 13, at Worster Lake, located in the park. Ms. Lung notice the young girl face down in shallow water and noticed that the victim was not breathing when pulled from the water. Ms. Lung started resuce breathing at this time and after about oneminute the little girl began breathing on her own. Mast was then taken to Memorial Hospital, South Bend where she is expected to make a full recovery from the ordeal. It was through fast action on the part of Ms. Lung, who is only 16 years old and the fast response from the park Staff and Conservation Officers that this was a successful resuce. Mast is from Topeka, Ind. Lung is being credited with saving the life of this little girl. KNOWING GOD THEME FOR BIBLE SCHOOL The Walkerton First Baptist Church will conduct their daily Vacation Bible School on July 22 through the 26th, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each evening. The theme this year is “Knowing God.” There will be classes for ages four through high school. There is no fee, but a free-will offering is received daily. Something new is added to this years Bible School. Everyone is welcome. The church is located at Clark and Maine Streets and D.O. Van Dyne is the pastor. NOTICE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens will meet, on Thursday, July 18, at 1:00 p.m., at Tai Pan Chinese Restaurant, Plymouth. Come and enjoy the fellowship and visit. Get Your News In Early!

On Sunday, July 7th the Float-A-Rama was held at Koontz Lake, sponsored by the Koontz Lake Association, with the entries leaving Dockside Inn, at 3 p.m. Best of Show was the entry from the Hair family entitled, “Gilligans Island,” who received the $125.00 prize money. First place went to the Zarembski family with their red, white and blue entry and they received $100.00; second place was the Steel Price

Epsilon Chi chapter of Tri Kappa Kiddies Day Parade Grand Prize winner is pictured above with Cindy, Gina, Charmen, Mike, Charlie, Kelsey, Stephanie and Katie Dreessen in their float entitled, “Jack In The Boxes.” The parade was held during the 4th of July festivities held in Walkerton. Individual and group entries congregated behind the Walkerton Elementary School and were led by the Walkerton Vol. Fire Dept. Homecoming Set At Walkerton United Methodist The Walkerton United Methodist Church, located at 1000 Georgia Street, is planning a Time of Celebration, set for Sunday, July 21. This year is the 30th anniversary of the uniting of the Methodist and Evangelical United Brethren congregations. The festivities start with the 10:30 a.m. service. Former pastor Harold Williams will share the pulpit with Dr. Donald Lacy. Special music will be provided by several church members both past and present. A pot-luck carry in dinner will be featured at 12 noon. An enjoyable afternoon of entertainment, fellowship and reminiscing is being planned. All former members and friends who attended these two churches as well as the present congregation are invited to come and spend the day of celebration with us. Immunization Clinics Set For August The St. Joseph County Health Department will be conducting Immunization Clinics during the first part of August. No appointments are necessary. All children must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian and all previous shot records are needed for immunizations. Now is the time to get immunizations for children entering Kindergarten and the sixth grade this coming fall. Avoid the crowds and hassle this summer. The first clinic will be at the Old Lakeville School Project, located on U.S. 31, on Thursday, August 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The United Methodist Church, 1000 Georgia Street, Walkerton, will host a clinic on Tuesday, August 6th, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The final clinic in the immediate area will be at the North Liberty Community Center, 300 S. CHURCH INVITES ALL CHILDREN TO A SAFARI ADVENTURE This summer the Koontz Lake Missionary Church will be transforming the church into Kingdom of the Son, where children will embark on a prayer safari. We will be having lively songs, skits, crafts, games, Bible studies and snacks — all of the things that make Vacation Bible School so popular with children and their parents. On top of that, we will be helping kids grow in their relationships to God through prayer. The Kingdom of the Son Vacation Bible School begins July 22nd and continues through July 26th.
