VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
GREEN HATS That’s what you would have seen if you had attended the Grand Opening of the Kankakee Auction Barn, on Monday, July Ist. The festivities started at 10 a.m. with the ribbon cutting by the Walkerton Area Chamber of Commerce and the Fisher Family. There was a sea of green caps given to the customers and attendees. Delicious pork sandwiches were served at noon. There. were clowns and paint ladies. Balloons were filled with helium and floated aloft. The restaurant was busy serving breakfast and food all day. Three auctioneers were selling various items. I went home once, but I could hear the auctioneer calling and I had to go back. I would have been richer if I had stayed home. (Also everyone would be drier too if she would have stayed home — watch out for the sixth grade. All other committee also gave their year end reports. A float committee was formed for the 4th of July Parade, in North Liberty. Following the close of the meeting the officers for the 1996-97 term were installed. Willadene Malstaff and Mrs. Beasley served refreshments using a red, white and blue theme. The next meeting will be on Wed., August 14, at 7 p.m. at the Community Building.

for the cupid’s arrow squirt gun everyone!) If you see Larry Klinedinst, from Larry’s Quick Mart, ask him about his cow! Barbara Houk, from ^st Source Bank, had a great’ time wheeling and a dealing on a tooth pick holder with a vendor. It was estimated that between 1,500 and 2,000 people attended the grand opening. We wish the Fisher Family much success on their venture. Remember that Kankakee Valley Auction opens at 5 a.m. serving breakfast and meals on Mondays only for the time being. Come on out on Monday and make a good and fun time of it. On the Fourth of July, remember that Friends of the Fourth are putting on another great show, at John Glenn High. I understand that the carnival is up and running. Walkerton has had fireworks for over 50 years, every year and this year is no exception. Hope to see you there! Saturday the Kiddies Parade will be held, I even got asked to be a judge. They are really scrapping the bottom of the barrel. On Sunday the Float-A-Rama will be held at Koontz Lake.
