Okwede Oke Graduates From Naval Academy Marine 2nd Lt. Okwede M. Oke, son of Festus E. and Connie J. Oke, of 312 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, recently graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy, in Annapolis, Maryland and was commissioned to his present rank in the U.S. Marine Corps. Oke was one of the 918 midshipmen who comprised the Class of 1996. Recognized as one of the finest academic institutions in the nation, the Naval Academy prepares midshipmen morally, intellectually and physically to become the future leaders of our Navy and Marine Corps and instills in them the highest ideals of courage, honor and commitment. Founded in 1845, the four-year program offers a bachelor of science degree in 18 academic majors in engineering, math, science, social sciences and the humanities. Midshipmen also take militaryprofessional courses, ethics and leadership courses. Oke successfully completed this intensive program and earned a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in Economics.

During summer training periods, Oke received on-the-job training in surface ships, submarines, aircraft and Marine Corps units. Oke has added his name to the list of more than 61,000 Naval Academy graduates, which have included 73 Medal of Honor winners, 202 members of Congress, 40 astronauts, 32 Rhodes Scholars, three governors, one Nobel Prize winner and one U.S. President. Oke is a 1991 graduate of John Glenn High School. ON HONORS LIST Bradley Miller, a senior at Carthage, has been named to the Honors List for the spring 1996 semester. Miller, a marketing and business administration major, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Miles Miller, 10455 East St. Rd. 4, Walkerton. To be eligible for the Honors List, a student must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.4, based on 32 or more graded credits and must have completed at least 16 credits during the previous term.
