DANCE COMPANY TO PERFORM AT FIREFLY Garth Fagan has been called a “true original.” On Saturday, June 22, at 8 p.m., Michiana will have the opportunity to enjoy the excitement and magic of this world renowned troupe that continues to make dance history. When he founded his company in 1970, in Rochester, New York, he drew on many sources to create his own dance language. He liked the sense of weight in modern dance, the torso-centered movement and energy of Afro-Caribbean, the speed and precision of ballet and the rule-breaking experimentation of the postmoderns. “The handsome, exotic, completely concentrated Fagan dancers move as if they were born speaking Fagan’s language, and they love the feel of it in their bodies,” wrote Elizabeth Kendall in Vogue. This is the second performance of the summer at Firefly. Tickets are $9 for adults in advance and sll the day of the performance and for children ages six to 16 they are $3 each and under the age of six they will be admitted free of charge. Tickets can be purchased at the Morris Civic Box Office, downtown South Bend or at Scottsdale Mall Management Office. FREE LIBRARY CARDS TO POLK TWP.
