ATTENTION Summer Rec Program Sign-Up The Walkerton Parks & Recreation Department along with the John Glenn School Corporation will be sponsoring a Summer Recreation Program for children ages eight to 14 years old. f I >' Y Wwa ‘ 6 • * •/- - A The Summer Recreation Program will be held Monday thru Friday, July Bth through August 16th. Many fun activities are being planned. Space is limited, please sign up early. Drop your name, address, phone number and age into the box at the Town of Walkerton’s clerk-treasurer’s office, 510 Roosevelt Road. Booth Space Available For 4th Os July The Walkerton Friends of the 4th are once again offering booth space for all non-profit organizations during the 4th of July Festivities. There is no charge for the space, but a donation would be appreciated. For additional information call Brenda Ludwig at 586-9622 evenings or 3622443 during the day. NOTICE The Oregon Township Senior Citizens will meet, on Thursday, June 20, at 12 noon, at St. Dominic’s Church Hall. You are asked to bring your own table service. The meal will be catered. Come and enjoy the fellowship and visit, play cards and please bring a friend along.

Three Sites To Be Dedicated J In Walkerton Monday, June 24 » * .nil -—i— •
The culmination of the first extensive project of the Walkerton Historical Society will be held on Monday, June 24th with the dedication of three historical markers in the Town of Walkerton. The first dedication will be at West Troy, corner of Roosevelt Road and Adams Street, where Larry’s Quick Mart is located, at 10:30 a.m. A brief history of the area will be made by a former resident, Everett Henry, of South Bend. His knowledge of early Walkerton is always made available to anyone who is interested. From that site, take Washington Street to the Walkerton Elementary School and Miller’s Merry Manor area to the Gerald Zahrn home. This was the locality of West York, a small community in the early 1850 s. Mr. David
Kiddies Day Parade Set In Walkerton The annual July Kiddies Day Parade is set for Saturday, July 6th, in Walkerton. Line up for the parade will begin at 11:30 a.m. behind the Walkerton Elementary School along with sign-up beside the Baptist Church. The parade will begin at 12 noon. The parade route will be from Clark Street to Georgia Street to the Walkerton United Methodist Church parking lot. Monetary awards will be presented at the parking lot following the parade for first, second and third place winners in each of the following categories: Me and My Pet, My Favorite Character, Float, Peddlers

Behr, executive director of the Walkerton Economic Development Corp, will relate a partial history of the Plymouth-LaPorte Trail and the settlement of West York. The final site will be the C.W.N. Stephens Store site at 800 Roosevelt Road, corner of U.S. 6 and State Road 23 South (or Indiana Street). Amybelle Wardman, president of the Walkerton Historical Society, will recall the life of the industrious, civic leader of Walkerton, C. W. N. Stephens. Following the dedications, interested persons will meet at Mr. Tee’s Family Restaurant, 600 Roosevelt Road, to learn of the progress of the new home of the Walkerton Lincoln Twp. Public Library. An open invitation is extended to all who are interested in the history of Walkerton.

Spend The 4th In Walkerton The Friends of the Fourth, in Walkerton, would like to announce that this year’s 4th of July celebration will begin on Wednesday, July 3rd with a new carnival to arrive in town. The Midwest Midways is bringing to town kiddie rides, four adult rides, games and concessions. C The carnival will be located in the John Glenn High School parking lot, off of Georgia Street and will be here through Sunday, July 7th with something for everyone. The hours will be from 1:00 p.m. everyday until everyone goes home. The carnival will open at 12 noon on the 4th of July. Come down to the school and join us for a great time, young and old alike and try out the Tilt-A-Whirl, Sidewinder, Swings, Slide or for the younger ones the train, train/boat, spook house, bubble. Buy your tickets in advance and avoid the long lines and save $4.50. Wrist Band Day will be on Saturday, July 6th following the Kiddies Day Parade, from 1 tp 5 p.m. HOT AIR BALLOON COMING FOR CELEBRATION Weather permitting—a hot air balloon glow will be a part of this year’s 4th of July Celebration. The “Friendship Enterprise’’ will be starting from the high school football field at 7:00 p.m. on July 4th. Come down and watch as they fill the balloon and cruise the town until 9:15

or 9:30 p.m. when they will “glow in the night’’ over the high school grounds. The balloon will then land back at the football field before the fireworks.
The fireworks will begin at dusk and after the hot air balloon glow at JGHS. There are three entrances to the field this year. One entrance will be in the parking lot off John Glenn Drive in the back of the school. The other two entrances will be from the parking lot off Georgia Street. Large signs above the entrances will mark them. Remember the fireworks are furnished entirely by donations from everyone who enjoys them. Please be generous as you go through the gates this year. Remember how much it costs to go out for an evening of fun — then dig into your pocket and donate to the 4th of July Celebration. The committee is working on some other entertainment for the evening of the 4th so come down and see or hear for yourself! 1F & Please Note — No fireworks, sparklers, grills or alcoholic beverages will be allowed on the grounds the day of the 4th. Police and security will be checking and don’t ruin your day be being asked to leave because you broke the rules! PARKING Do you have an area close or within walking distance to JGHS? Would you be willing to let cars park there on the 4th of July? If you answered yes to these questions, why not call one of the Friends of the Fourth and we will put your location on the map which will be in the paper prior to the celebration.
