Quarterly Meeting By Chamber Set For Tues., June 18 The Walkerton Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their next quarterly meeting on Tuesday, June 18, at Al’s Diner, State Road 23, Koontz Lake, according to the president, Nedra Williams. Registration begins at 6:00 a.m. with breakfast to follow at 6:30 a.m. Mark your calendar now and be sure to attend. iJUt >1 ■■ FREE LIBRARY CARDS TO POLK TWP. CHILDREN Polk Township residents do not belong to any library since they do not pay taxes to support one. To get a library card, they must purchase one for $25.00. However, for the summer, children that join the Walkerton Library’s “Go For The Gold” summer reading program, they may get a library card for FREE! The card will be good for children only through the end of the summer reading program. To register for the card, children need to stop in and pick up a form. A parent or legal guardian will need to sign the card before the library can issue a library card. To join the reading program all the children need to do is pick up a list of rules and prizes and a sheet to record the books they have read. Stop in now and join the fun! Three Sites To Be Dedicated <3. In Walkerton Monday, June 24 $ *
Plans are underway by the Walkerton Historical Society for the dedication of three historical markers in the town proper, set for Monday, June 24th. The three sites include West Troy at the intersection of Roosevelt Road and Adams Street (Larry’s Quick Mart); West York on the Plymouth-LaPorte Trail at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Zahrn, adjacent to Miller’s Merry Manor and the third marker will be at 800 Roosevelt Road at the intersection of
BEACH BLOWOUT VOLLEYBALL TOURNAMENT The Summer Beach Blowout Volleyball Tournament will be held on Sunday, July 21, at the Walkerton Volleyball Courts. Entry fee is $15.00 per person and includes food, drinks and prizes for the winners. Free T-shirts for the first 15 to sign up! Tournament will be a round-robin blind mans draw and teams will be determined on the day of the tournament. Participants must be 16 years old and deadline is July Ist. Indiana Street (St. Rd. 23) and Roosevelt Road which was the site of the Stephens General Store from 1852 until 1892. In 1892 the store was destroyed by fire. There will be brief ceremonies at each site commencing at 10:30 a.m. at West Troy; 11:00 a.m. at the West York site and 11:30 a.m. at 800 Roosevelt Road. A brief history of each site will be given with added comments from several townspeople. An invitation is extended to all interested persons to attend the dedications.
The John Glenn Class of 1971 will hold their 25th class reunion on July 5 and 6. Koontz Lake Assoc. Membership Drive Saturday The Koontz Lake Association will be holding their annual membership drive, on Saturday, June 15, at the clubhouse. The day will begin at 9:00 a.m. with a biscuit and gravy breakfast and of course a chance for everyone to sign up as members of the association. Float-A-Rama At Koontz Lake Sunday, July 7th The Koontz Lake Association has chosen B--100 (WBYT) as their main media outlet for this years Float-A-Rama, set for Sunday, July 7th, on Koontz Lake. The new format for this years event will be the judging and awarding of prize money. For the “Best Os Show” entry the prize is $125.00; first runner-up, SIOO cash; 2nd place, SSO and for third place $25.00 will be awarded. Line-up will be at 2:30 p.m. on July 7th at Dockside Restaurant, on the west shore of Koontz Lake with the parade to begin at 3:00 p.m. Entry forms may be obtained at the restaurant and registration deadline is Saturday, June 29th. There is no entry fee. B-100 will broadcast the days events live between 1:00 and 4:00 p.m. and the radio personality will be accompanied by the B-100’s station vehicle (A Hummer) and their 25 ft. inflatable Bee balloon. This is a must see event. B-100 plays today’s best and hottest Country hits and is located at 100.7 on the FM dial. SUMMER INTERN Jeanna Oke, daughter of Festus and Connie Oke, 312 Roosevelt Road, Walkerton, will serve as an intern during the summer at the Chicago Art Institute and the Urban Life Center, in Chicago.

Booth Space Available For 4th Os July The Walkerton Friends of the 4th are once again offering booth space for all non-profit organizations during the 4th of July Festivities. VISITATION DAY SET AT ANCILLA Ancilla College, in Donaldson, will host the Summer Campus Visitation Day, on Tuesday, June 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. Potential students will have the chance to visit a class, tour the campus, participate in an information session and enjoy a complimentary lunch. All area residents considering attending Ancilla College are welcome to attend the event. Please call the Student Services Office at 936-8898 to reserve a spot today! FORESTRY FIELD DAY 11, JUNE 22 The second Forestry Field Day, sponsored by the LaPorte County Soil and Water Conservation District will be held on Saturday, June 22, from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on the property of Pat and Rusty Mcßride, 7195 E. 1000 N., New Carlisle. Come and learn about management practices that will enhance the value of your woodland. Bruce Wakeland, private forester, will be on hand to talk about harvesting, multipleuse planning and practices. Two other resource persons will be on hand from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources: Steve Winicker, from the Division of Forestry and Rick Ward, from the Division of Fish and Wildlife.
