SERVICE NOTES Navy Petty Officer 3rd Class Richard T. Peterson, son of Richard T. and Karen S. Peterson, of 617 S. State Street, North Liberty, is participating in operations off the west African coast of Liberia while serving aboard the amphibious assault ship USS Guam, the lead ship of the USS Guam Amphibious Ready Group. Peterson is one of 3,400 sailors and marines who traveled from the Adriatic Sea near Bosnia to help evacuate U.S. citizens and other designated civilians from Monrovia, Liberia, due to increased looting and lawlessness. Peterson is working as part of a fiveship task force that includes 24 helicopters and 1,500 Marines. Peterson’s group traveled more than 3,000 miles from the Adriatic Sea to Liberia. While in the Adriatic, the group had been off the coast ready to support the peace implementation forces in Bosnia. Home based in Norfolk, VA, Peterson is currently halfway through a six month overseas deployment. While spending most of the time at sea, Peterson also has visited Naples, Italy and the island of Malta. Peterson’s involvement in

It was greatly appreciated at this time of sorrow. The Falcon Freestyle Wrestling Club has enjoyed a very successful season and continues to be a great development program for both the middle school and high school wrestlers. Many adults have given of their time and talent to work with our area boys to develop and improve their skills and serve as positive role models to our young athletes. Scott King (with the help from daughter Emily) has done all the paper work and in general coordinated the program from the start. Wade and Bonnie Salyer have both been involved in the organization, fund raising and coaching areas. Others who have served as coaches include Brian Lowry, Mike Schmidt, Dick Bogard, Gayton Marks, Rich Borrer, Gregg Aldrich and Nick Medich. If I have left someone off the list, please forgive me as we really appreciate your efforts. And last but certainly not least, a big Thank You to Manda King for taking such good care of the facilities and making sure the boys have a clean and safe environment to compete in. I’m sure I speak for all the boys as well when I say many thanks to all, it was a job well done! Michael Daube JG Wrestling

the deployment is an example of the mobility of forward deployed naval forces. Whether rescuing civilians or enforcing international peace initiatives, these highly trained sailors and marines can be withdrawn quickly when no longer needed. The 1991 graduate of John Glenn High School joined the Navy in May of 1991. A vOv&y Vj AH'/
