fß^h« '•! 11 Lb । Mk I MW i J Linda Allsop fits a bicycle helmet on her daughter, Jennifer, a second grader, as part of the demonstration of bicycle safety held at St. Patrick School, in Walkerton, on May 15th. to demonstrated its construction. The class learned that fit is more important than the design painted on the helmet. The helmet must come over the forehead and fit snugly. Allsop concluded her presentation with a raffle of two bicycle safety helmets which were won by first grader Riley Sheaks and second grader Tina Garcia. This was the last in a series of community helpers who addressed the class. Previous guests included librarian Gail Suter and police chief Carl Sobieralski along with the canine unit. Wins Afghan ' i D -H Vickie Burger, of Walkerton, is the proud winner of an afghan that was raffled off by the residents of Miller’s Merry Manor this past week. UM W Mother Daughter Banquet Enjoyed The Walkerton United Methodist Women held their annual MotherDaughter Banquet, on Thursday evening, May 9, at the fellowship hall of the church. Following the delicious pot luck dinner a drawing was held with the children’s names to see who would receive the 14 top hat centerpieces. The great magician, James Peirce, entertained with magicial tricks in the sanctuary of the church. The Mother-Daughter response was given by Penni Fansler and her daughter, Ashley. Awards were presented to special mothers with the Mother of the Year award going to Marilyn Wallace. A gift of missions was given in honor of Dorothy Lacy and one in memory of Mary Jane Beaty for her years of dedication, hard work and faithfullness to UMW. Potted plants were given to the oldest mother, Goldie Skinner; youngest, Penni Fansler; youngest daughter, Megan Moore; youngest grandmother, Terri Fansler; having the most daughters, daughter-in-laws and granddaughters went to Pauline Knowlton; most aunts present, Alyssa Davis; mother who came the farthest, Janice Schultz; mother with the most pennies in her purse, Sue Shields; mother with the most jewelry on, Myrna Stull and mother who had gold shoes on, Mary Hahn.
