VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
As the Director of Bands in the John Glenn School Corporation, the Instrumental Music Department is growing and expanding as our incoming sixth graders have proven to us (over 75 students out of 132 corporation wide). What an exciting opportunity for Mrs. Burnett and I to share music with your children. It is something I look forward to each day! As we are all aware, everything costs money. With a program like ours, we are no exception. Recently, I was informed that an anonymous donation of sixhundred dollars has been given to the band. I wish to offer my thanks to that individual or individuals who feel that music is an important part of the John Glenn School Corporation. I promise you that it will be put to good use. THANK YOU! Sincerely, Dan Fortlander A Little Heaven In Walkerton This past Saturday, I had the immense pleasure to visit Perennial’s Plus, owned by Tom and Dena Griffin. I am amazed at the large and varied supplies of flowers and vegetables. You name it, I am sure it was there. You can tell Tom and Dena worked very hard over the winter months. If you would like to enjoy yourself among the beautiful flowers, you must—visit Perennial’s Plus this spring. Keep up the great business Tom and Dena! As you know, I will be back and probably more than once. Sharon Harasewicz ME AGAIN Last week I ended my letter with the statement that we, who lived on the western coast, were glad

that the bomb ended the war with Japan. We weren’t happy that the bomb killed many women and children in Hiroshima, we were glad that finally we didn’t have to worry about every plane going overhead was a possible bomb being dropped on us. We had to put blackout curtains on all our windows. There were constant searchlights looking for the enemy. Air-raid drills were standard in the schools. There were always rumors that balloons were carrying chemicals or bombs. Our sons and brothers were fighting in the war too. Our Japanese neighbors were interned in camps, despite protests by their neighbors. I was quite young, but I remember the uneasiness of everyone. My brother had just shipped out for an assault on Japan. He was on the high seas when Japan surrendered. Yes we were glad that finally we had ended the war. War is hell and there has to be a winner. I am glad that America was the winner. The Deuterium isotope discovered by Dr. Urey went on to be used to as a tracer in medicine, it helped power energy plants. Dr. Urey became very involved in the space program. John Glenn should be happy that Dr. Urey had made his great discovery. Our fowl farm has been added to last night. Roy bought two noisy guineas. I think that he just likes to keep his wife busy. Hopefully we can get the garden planted. I’m getting hungry for homegrown tomatoes. The Fourth of July will soon be here and I won’t have new peas and potatoes. With all of the noise being made about free speech and all our rights, I hope that everyone took the time to vote on election day. This is a great right that many seem to ignore. My thought has always been, no vote, no right to gripe about the government. Have a happy spring. Sincerely, Nedra Williams
