OBITUARIES

SHIRLEY A. KONICKE Shirley A. Konicke, 59, of Prescott, Arizona, formerly of North Liberty, passed away following an illness at 7:00 a.m. on April 17, in Good Samaritan Hospital, Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on July 16, 1936, in North Liberty. As Shirley A. Wisenbaugh she married James S. Konicke, on April 3, 1971, who survives. She was a retired registered nurse. Also surviving is a daughter, Phyllis G. Oomen, of Saginaw, Mich.; three sons, Mark Gearhart, of Hobart, David Gearhart, of Gary and John Gearhart, of Arizona; two gran-

dchildren; two half sisters, Velma Wharton, of North Liberty and June Wilfong, of South Bend and two half brothers, Wallace and Paul Aldrich, both of North Liberty. Services were held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, April 17, in the North Liberty Church of the Brethren with burial in Polk-Center Cemetery, Walkerton. She was a graduate of North Liberty High School. EVELYNE R. HEIL Evelyne R. Heil, 78, of 1004 Harrison Street, Walkerton, passed away at 11:22 a.m., on Wednesday, April 17, at Miller’s Merry Manor, Walkerton. She was born on October 25, 1917, in LaPorte County and lived in Walkerton most of her life. As Evelyne Sheaks she married Walter L. Heil on October 3, 1939, in Detroit, Mich., who survives. She retired in 1976 as owner/operator of Heil’s Restaurant and was a former employee of Walkerton Buick Garage, U.S. Postal Service and B. I. Holser & Co., Walkerton. Also surviving are two daughters, Charlene Snodgrass and Diane Stahly, both of Walkerton; a sons, Wally A., of Martinsville; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and six sisters, Genevieve Adams, of Walkerton, Dollie Tener, of Fish Lake, Margaret Burris, of Tucson, Arizona and Cleota Foster, Patricia Murphy and Lucille Yberra, all of Fort Wayne. Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday in the Nusbaum-Elkin Funeral Home, Walkerton with burial following in Woodlawn Cemetery, Walkerton. She was a past president of the American Legion Post 189 Auxiliary, member of 8 & 40 Partnership, Order of Eastern Star Chapter 319 and the United Brethren Church. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association. JOSEPH E. MAKER Joseph Edward Maker, 85, of Lakewood, Colorado, a retired Jefferson County judge, passed away on Jan. 25th, in Lakewood. Services were held on Jan. 29 in the Mount Olivet Chapel with interment in Mount Olivet Cemetery. He was born on March 6, 1910, in Chicago. He was a 1927 graduate of North Liberty High School as Joseph Makowski. He graduated from John Marshall Law School, in Chicago, and was an executive for Montgomery Ward. He was transferred to Denver in 1942 and opened his own law office in 1944. He married Jeanne Patterson, in Golden, on Nov. 25, 1945, who survives (Continued on Page 9)
