This year was the 100th running of the Boston Marathon, therefore making it the largest field of runners ever in the history of the event. It took only 28 minutes for some 38,706 runners to cross the start line, which was about a half-hour less than had been predicted. a test in endurance and strength, both mentally and physically, but Fair said she had been training hard for Boston ever since she qualified last October in the Chicago Marathon. Her husband, Tom, and children, Lisa and Ryan, are very supportive of her, just as they were this past week in Boston. This was her sixth marathon and undoubtedly the most challenging. The early course in the Boston heads downhill, which only meant her quads and knees would take a beating if she didn’t set a pace that she could maintain throughout the race. It leveled off somewhat and then the painful hills of Newton began at about the 15 mile mark and continued throgh Heartbreak Hill between mile 20 and 21.
