Work Day At Potato Creek Park Set For April 20th On Saturday, April 20, at Potato Creek State Park, a “Work Day” has been set aside for those of us /ho would like to help prepare the park for our great-great grandchildren. Well here is your chance! A series of resource management work days have been set up to involve park visitors in restoring some of the Park’s natural areas to their pre-settlement conditions. The “Work Day” for April 20th is for invasive plant control. Helpers are to meet at the Nature Center. These alien plants are choking out some of our native ones. Join others in helping with the attack and fight back a few invasive exotics together. Bring gloves and wear long pants, sturdy shoes and long sleeves. All work days are not suitable for small children. All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Dress for the weather and bring gloves for all projects. If you plan on bringing a group, call ahead to make Arrangements. Also if you plan on spending the day, bring a sack lunch along. Other “Work Days’’ scheduled are on June 1; July 20; August 10 and October 19. Many other projects are in need of being done for groups wishing to assist with resource management. Please contact the Park Naturalists to discuss them. For further information contact the Park at 6568186. Naturalist Schedule At Potato Creek State Park The Naturalist activities for the upcoming weekend at Potato Creek State Park are as follows according to Tim Cordell and Mary Baird, naturalists. On Saturday, April 13 the program at 10 a.m. is entitled, “Bats and Bananas” which will be held at the Nature Center Auditorium and will last about 45 minutes. Come and hear the importance of bats to our lives. Then at 2 p.m. is the program “Farm Life” at the auditorium. Relive a little of rural life
of the 1930’s in the Potato Creek area as a look back will be taken. On Sunday, April 14 is the Spring Fling at 10 a.m. at the Porter-Rea Cemetery. Come along on this pleasant walk to enjoy the season and search for signs of spring. This will take about and hour and 45 minutes. Then at 2 p.m. is the return of the rattlesnake program at the auditorium. Come and hear about plans to restore the park and bring back some of its original inhabitants. Revival Service At The First Baptist Church The First Baptist Church of Walkerton will have Revival Services, April 14 through the 19th with Evangelist Darcel McCoy, of Michigan City, as the special speaker. The Sunday services will be at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. and the evening service is set for 7:00 p.m. Darcel and Gale were married on June 18, 1977, and they have four children, Charmaine, Sharon, Darcel, Jr. (Butch) and Faith. They will also accompany him in the services. Darcel was born and reared in Gary, IN. As a teenager he was a typical “Juvenile delinquent.’’ Fortunately, in 1970, he managed to graduate from high school. After several years as a rock musician and singer, Darcel found himself facing the fact that he was wasting his life away. Realizing the pleasures of sin only last a little while, he began to seek for contentment that the world could not satisfy. As a result of reading the Bible and being witnessed to by earnest soul-winnners, he was saved in Los Angeles, in 1975. After returning to his hometown, -he was called to preach and began preaching in January of 1977. Eventually, he pastored a traditional “Missionary” Baptist Church in Gary. After several years there he left to start an Independent Fundamental Baptist Church in Gary. In 1988 he entered Fairhaven Baptist College where he graduated in the spring of 1994. The public is welcome and invited to the Revival Services at the church which is located at Clark and Maine Streets, in Walkerton. Rev. D. O. Van Dyne is the pastor.
