him to JGHS. Kevin will be speaking to the students about decision making and drugs. In most schools, that type of presentation would not be too popular with the student body. However, when Kevin talks, students listen. Why? Through the magical vehicle of laughter, Kevin has adapted and developed a presentation in which students of all ages can relate. “Kids using drugs is not a laughing matter,” claims the 27 year old humorist and motivator. “The bottom line is you have to understand how young people feel. I simply discuss basic drug education, prevention skills and self-esteem, in an upbeat, positive and entertaining way.” Kevin’s age, energy and charisma have a lot to do with the fact that he is one of the most effective speakers for young people today. For over 10 years Kevin has presented to over 1 million young people, educators and parents in the U.S., Canada, Europe and was one of the first motivational speakers to reach students and adults in China. He has been recognized by the White House, along with a variety of national drug-free and educational organizations, for his public service. He has also worked with the NFL, the NBA and Major League Baseball in conjunction with their drug-free efforts. An honors graduate of Butler University, in Indianapolis, Kevin received a bachelors of science degree in radio and television and has spent time serving on the staff of The David Letterman Show. Reeve Suggests Otter Sponsorship Program To WES WWW JL - I I I i ' Z A . The students of Walkerton Elementary School will be participating in the river otter reintroduction program to be held the week of April 15. The involvement of the students is due to the suggestion by Jared Reeve, a third grader at WES who encouraged the sponsorship of the program. The students will be attempting to sponsor a river otter by contributing SSOO in donations the week of April 15. Kathy Quirnbach, from the Indiana Division of Fish and Wildlife, will be presenting a program to educate the students during the assembly at the school, on Thursday, April 11th. Students will learn that river otters used to be a common sight in Indiana. Unregulated fur trapping, wetland drainage and water pollution lead to its disappearance from Indiana by 1942. The river otter reintroduction program plans to bring 325 river otters into Indiana through 1999. Locally, river otters have already been released in the Tippecanoe River basin and there are plans to soon release some in the St. Joseph River basin. The total cost for one otter and its upkeep is $5.00. The community is invited to contribute toward this project by contacting any WES student or by contacting Dixie Kunze at WES. VOICE OF THE PEOPLE
The scene at the North Liberty Eastlawn Cemetery on April 6th was very distrubing to me and many others. “Memorial Park” looked deserted since all the hanging baskets with new flowers, vases filled with flowers, except for one with yellow flowers, were all removed. A rosary wrapped around the nook was also dumped over the hill along with smashed plastic baskets of beautiful flowers destroyed. American flags were on the ground, no respect for the flag was shown. I questioned the removal of the hanging baskets on my husband’s grave and was told (quote) “We can’t tell new flowers from old.” So everything had to go! In the future the Cemetery Board should show respect for the deceased graves. We were denied our constitutional rights to decorate our loved ones graves, this should not ever happen again. Cleanup time is set for the month of March.
