Thurs., April 11th The John Glenn Music Department will present their annual Spring Concert, on Thursday, April 11, at 7:00 p.m., in the high school gym. This years concert will be presented with a twist, not only are the traditional groups performing, the Cadet Band, the Urey Concert Band and the JG Concert Band, but the music department will host the Spooner High School Concert Band, from Spooner, Wisconsin. They will perform with the JG Concert Band in a mass band performance number. You may ask why Spooner, Wisconsin and where is Spooner anyway? JG has a close connection with that area. Former JG graduate and former drum major for the then “Marching Falcons” is Jeff Patterson. Mr. Patterson is the director of bands at Spooner High School. Jeff was a senior when Mr. Dan Fortlander took over the position of band director at JG in 1987. Jeff and Mr. Fortlander have discussed the notion of an exchange concert for several years, however, this is the first opportunity that most everything has fallen into place. The highlight of the concert will be the musical selection “Irving Berlin Showstoppers,” performed by the JG Concert Band and the SHS Band in a mass band setting of over 200 student musicians. This will be quite an experience not only for the musicians, but quite a treat for the audience. The Spring Concert will feature the talents of the Walkerton and North Liberty Cadet Band, the Urey Middle School Concert Band, the John Glenn High School Concert Band with special guests from Spooner High School.
