The president, Gerri Ruby, opened the meeting with the pledge to the flag and then all repeating the club creed. The minutes were read by Mary Hahn and the birthday song was sung to Mrs. Eddinger and the anniversary song to Norma Eddinger. The election of officers was held with Marty Malstaff being elected president; Norma Eddinger, vice president and Naomi Personette, secretary. The Spring Fling will be held on May Bth at the Esther Singer Building, 4-H Fairgrounds, South Bend. Theme for the day is “Garden Party.” Dinner will be $5.75 per person. The group is planning an outing to Amish Acres, in Nappanee, with Norma Eddinger in charge. The citizenship report was given by Mary Hahn on tornadoes and she read a story about the Palm Sunday tornadoes, that we all remember, to well. Ruth Ullery read a poem, “Parents Pray.” Mrs. Eddinger then shared her experiences with corn beef and cabbage and how to cook it. The April meeting will be at the home of Alice Walker. Door prize was won by Mrs. Ullery. Delicious refreshments were served by the hostess. *** In England, Germany and other countries children roll Easter eggs against one another or down a hill. The egg that stays uncracked longest is the winner.

CELEBRATES 80th BIRTHDAY Weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. George (Goldie) Matz, of Walkerton, were Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Fournier, Erik, Kelli and Abby, of East Moline, 111. They were here in celebration of the 80th birthday of Goldie Matz. Other guests on Saturday included Mr. and Mrs. Frank Bennett, of South Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Bill Brennan, of Edwardsburg, Mich, and Polly Klopfenstein, of Walkerton. A dinner was enjoyed at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday at Al’s Diner, Koontz Lake, in celebration of Goldie’s birthday. Goldie received many lovely gifts, flowers and cards and she wishes to thank everyone who thought of her on her special day. CHESS TEAM COMPETES AT STATE The top 32 chess teams from around the state were invited to compete in the State Chess Tournament, held in Terre Haute, on Saturday, March 23. The team from Urey Middle School was one of those teams. The team of Andrew Ross, captain; Mike Alexander, Luke Batman, Cliff Slater and Adam Mitschelm represented UMS. The team participated in five rounds of play and finished 14th overall. Andrew Ross finished with the best individual

Brian and Paula are spending the week here with their grandparents while on spring break from school. CLUB TO MEET The Oregon Township Homemakers Club will hold their first meeting of the year, on Tuesday, April 9th at 12:30 p.m., at Al’s Diner, Koontz Lake. President, Pam Kaplowitz, asks that members should try to attend this meeting as there are many issues to be discussed and reviewed for the coming year. The club meets the second Tuesday of each month and extends a welcome to new members. Our sympathy goes to the Richard Germain family and the family of Alvina “Bubles” Germain, a long time member, who passed away on March 22nd. A Foot Clinic will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at the REAL Services Nutrition Site, by appointment only.
