VARSITY IMF ROVES WITH THREE WINS Glenn’s Lady Falcons junior varsity improved to 10-4 with three basketball victories last week. The Falcons topped a much improved Westville team 31-19 Tuesday night and then stopped New Prairie 37-29 on Thursday night in games played on the local hardwood. On the road Saturday, the locals rolled over the Bethany Christian jayvees 40-23. In the Falcons vs Blackhawks game Lexia Drews led all scorers with 10 points. Others scoring were Holly Legge and Danielle Ludwig each with seven points to their credit; Ojeta Oke with five and Becca Strahm with two. The Lady Falcons fought a hard battle to take the win over the Cougars. Jennifer Traub and Holly

Legge led the Falcons with 10 and eight points, respectively. Lexia Drews added seven markers followed by Becca Strahm and Tammy Wasteney with four points apiece. Lynna Potts and Ojeta Oke closed out the scoring with two points each. The Falcons came out strong against the Bruins to win the game on Saturday. Jennifer Traub again led the local girls with 10 points followed by Legge with six; Strahm and Fuentes each with five; Wasteney and Jessica Traub each with four points and Potts, Flaugher and Hathaway each with two points apiece. LADY FALCONS DOWN O-D The Lady Falcons struggled to a 53-39 triumph at Oregon-Davis in first round action of the BiCounty girls basketball tournament, on Monday night. The Falcons will carry a fine 11-4 record into tonight’s semi-final game against Bremen (12-4) on the Lions court with a scheduled tipoff set for 6:30 p.m. Coach Scott Hostetler’s charges worked their way to a 15-9 lead at the first stop and at times looked like they would blow the game open. But the scrappy Bobcats would just not go away as they managed to stay close mainly on the sloppy play of the Falcons. Glenn enjoyed a 30-13 lead at halftime and were on top 40-22 at the end of three periods of play. The Bobcats, behind 11 fourth quarter points by sophomore standout Erin Parrish, closed to within 10 at 49-39 with just over two minutes remaining in the contest. But that was as close as the Bobcats would get as the Falcons scored the final four points to seal the victory. Angel Dietrich with 14 points and Heidi Wasteney with 10 tallies paced the Falcon attack. Parrish took game scoring honors with 23 points for the Bobcats. GIRLS 81-COUNTY SCORES Culver 45, CGA 38 N. LADY FALCONS RACK UP THREE MORE VICTORIES The Lady Falcons racked up three victories last week to guarantee their first winning cage campaign in over a decade. The wins upped the locals overall record to 10-4 and 4-2 in Northern State Conference play. The Falcons of Coach Scott Hostetler started the week off with a record breaking 85-27 victory over visiting Westville Tuesday night, then Thursday night knocked off a tough New Prairie quintet 51-43 in NSC action at home before escaping with a narrow 3230 win at Bethany Christian on Saturday afternoon. The 85 point total against the Blackhawks set a new high mark for a Glenn girls team on the local hardwood. The old record was 81 points scored against New Prairie in 1978. The most points scored in a game for a Lady Falcon team is 89 points which the Lady Falcons did against Culver Girls Academy in 1977. Pound Westville The local gals left little doubt to the outcome against the outmanned Lady Blackhawks as they raced to a lopsided 26-8 lead at the end of one period of play. The Falcons enjoyed a huge 43-19 bulge at the intermission and were on top 64-23 to start the final eight minutes. Glenn placed four players in double figures in the rout, led by Heidi Wasteney with 18 points followed by Tracey Futa with 17, Bridget Honaker 15 and Angel Dietrich 10. Win NSC Tilt The Falcons found themselves in a real physical battle with NSC foe New Prairie. The Falcons fought their way to a 10-8 advantage over the much improved Cougars at the first stop. Glenn pumped in 18 points in the second frame to build a seven point cushion at the half, 28-21. The Falcons could not shake the Cougars in the

third segment as they led by only six, 39-33. New Prairie narrowed the gap to five in the final period but could get no closer as the Falcons hung on for the win. Tracey Futa was the offensive spark plug for the winners with 14 points. Lindsay O’Connor knocked down two long range treys to chip in with 11 tallies. Beth Honaker hauled down nine rebounds for the locals. Freshman Janice Belzowski led all Cougar scorers with 11 points and nine rebounds. Squeeze By BC Coach Hostetlers squad could not get untracked in their Saturday afternoon encounter with the Bruins of Bethany Christian. The black clad locals fell behind early as they could not buy a bucket in the first eight minutes and trailed 10-3 at the end of the first quarter. The Falcons found the range in the second and went on a 22-8 run over the next 16 minutes to lead 1514 at the intermission and 25-18 at the third stop. Sheila Delagrange hit two free throws with 19 seconds left to pull the Bruins even at 30 all in the final period. Angel Dietrich was fouled with three ticks left in the game and calmly stepped to the line and sank both tries to pull out the victory for the Falcons. Heidi Wasteney and Dietrich paced a balanced scoring attack for the locals with eight and seven points, respectively.
