FALCONS FALTER IN NSC CHAMPIONSHIP DRIVE AT CULVER John Glenn’s Lady Falcons were upended by Culver 41-35 Saturday afternoon on the Cavaliers hardwood and ended all hopes of a share of the girls Northern State Conference basketball title. The Falcons dropped to 3-2 in league play and 7-4 overall and can no longer tie Bremen for the crown as the Lions finished NSC play at 6-1 and now wait to see if Jimtown’s 3-1 can match their mark for a piece of the girls championship. A miserable 10 of 53 shooting performance from the field including four of 40 in the paint spelled doom for the locals. Glenn was only 12 of 26 from the 15-foot stripe as well. Coach Scott Hostetler’s troops battled the Cavaliers on even terms throughout the initial stanza as the period ended in a deadlock, 8-all. The Falcons shooting woes were very obvious in the second quarter as they missed several wide open shots right on top the basket, but still they managed to hang close at the intermission and only trailed by three, 19-16. The third frame seemed to be the undoing of the scrappy Falcons as they converted on just one fielder, a trey by Lindsay O’Connor, which allowed the home squad to widen their lead to 30-19 at the third stop. After trailing by as many as 10 points throughout much of the first six and a half minutes of the final chapter, the Falcons made a fercious attempt to pull out the victory. A two-pointer by Angel Dietrich and treys by O’Connor and Heidi Wasteney quickly pulled the Falcons to within three, 3835, with just under a minute to play. But that was as close as Glenn would get as the Cavaliers salvaged the win at the charity stripe. O’Connor led all Glenn scorers with 10 points, which included two treys.
