Christmas^ CHRISTMAS Op CANTATA SET FOR DEC. 17 The Teegarden First Brethren Church will present the Dutchtown Brethren Church Choir performing the cantata, “Home For Christmas” on Sunday, Dec. 17, at 5:00 p.m., at the church. 'lOt' CHRISTMAS CANTATA IN NORTH LIBERTY SUNDAY, DEC. 17 The North Liberty United Methodist Church Choir will present a Christmas cantata, “Love Came Down,” by Stan Pethel. The cantata will be presented during the morning worship service, Sunday, Dec. 17, at 9:30 a.m. The choir is under the direction of Mrs. Madelyn Nelson. This is a dramatic and appealing cantata which celebrates the miraculous birth of Christ. The scrip-ture-based narration is I scored with a perfect balance of original anthems, modified favorite hymns and carols. It begins with “Love Came Down At Christmas” and continues with “The Promised Coming.” You will hear familiar hymns balanced together. A tender and smooth number follows, “The Holy Child.” Becky Burch is soloist for “Child So Lovely.” A medley of Christmas carols is the focus in “The Angels Sang.” Narration during the cantata will be given by Pastor Fred Stayton and Caroline Shupert. “Mary,” will be narrated by Julie Bontrager and “Joseph,” by Todd Burch. Plymouth Holiday Tourney Set For Dec. 19 & 20 The draw for the boys varsity basketball Ist Source Bank Holiday Classic tournament, at Plymouth High School, was announced by the tournament committee at their annual pre-tourna-ment luncheon, held recently at the Plymouth Country Club. Rochester and Tippecanoe Valley begin the action on Tuesday, Dec. 19, at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Plymouth and John Glenn game, at approximately 8:15 p.m. The consolation and championship games will be played on Wednesday, Dec. 20, with the consolation game set for 6:30 p.m. and the championship game to follow. JV ACTION The John Glenn Junior Varsity team will open the Ist Source Bank Holiday Classic Tourney on Monday, Dec. 18, at 5 p.m. when they play Plymouth, on the main floor gym as Rochester is matched with Tippecanoe Valley in the auxiliary gym. The championship and consolation games will follow one-hour after the ending of the first round match-ups. **♦ TICKET SALES Tickets for the Ist Source Bank Holiday Classic are on sale at the John Glenn High School. Reserved tickets for both nights are priced at $7.00 and are available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Monday, Dec. 18, at the high school. Single session tickets are general admission and are available at the gate on game night for $5.00. FAN BUS The fan bus to the Ist Source Bank Holiday Classic Basketball Tourney, at Plymouth High School, for Tuesday, Dec. 19 will depart from North Liberty, at 5:30 p.m. and from the high school at 5:45 p.m. The cost to ride is SI.OO for both students and adults. p.m. Members are asked to bring a $5 gift for the gift exchange. DRA WINGS FOR 81-COUNTY ANNOUNCED The drawings for the 31st annual Bi-County Tournament was announced at the annual luncheon, held recently. The boys varsity portion of the tournament will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 16, at LaVille High School with the host Lancers taking on the Bremen Lions, at 6:30 p.m. The second game of the night will match Oregon-Davis and John Glenn, at approximately 8 p.m. On Wednesday, Jan. 17, Argos and New Prairie will open at 6:30 p.m. followed by the Culver Community High School and CMA game. Semi-final action resumes on Friday, Jan. 19, with Tuesday’s winners facing one another at 7 p.m. followed by the Wednesday’s winners at approximately 8:30 p.m. The boys varsity finals will be played on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 8:30 p.m. The girls varsity, girls junior varsity and boys junior varsity teams will begin their tournament on Monday, Jan. 15. The Glenn teams travel to Oregon-Davis for their first round action. The girls junior varsity game will be played at the high school beginning at 6 p.m. The boys junior varsity game will be played at OregonDavis Elementary School at 6 p.m. The girls varsity game will follow the girls junior varsity game. Winners of the junior varsity games advance to the semi-finals which are to be played at Bremen High School, on Saturday, Jan. 20, beginning at 9 a.m. The girls varsity winner advances to semi-final action at Bremen on Thursday, Jan. 18, beginning at 6:30 p.m. The girls varsity finals will be played at LaVille High School on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 6:30 p.m., prior to the boys varsity championship game. SANTA TO ARRIVE IN NORTH LIBERTY Santa Claus will be arriving in North Liberty at the Fire Station, on Saturday, Dec. 16, at 10 a.m. Santa’s visit is sponsored by the North Liberty Vol. Fire Dept, and Wells U.A.W.

Christmas Issue To Be Published Thurs., Dec. 21 The annual Christmas edition of the Independent News will be published on Thursday, Dec. 21. It is at this time that we try to contact all of the area businesses and industrial firms to participate in wishing everyone a “Merry Christmas.” As in years past we also will have the Season’s Greetings for those individuals who wish to send a special message to their family and friends at the holiday season. These will also be included in the Dec. 21st issue. Cost of these are the same as for a regular Happy Ad, $2.50. Cooperation in receiving news and articles for this issue as well as the New Year’s issue, which will be published on Dec. 28th, would be greatly appreciated. With the holidays falling on a Monday this year we are cut short of valuable time in getting the paper ready to be printed.
