Tracy Limerick Named DAR Good Citizen ipw A lii " fl "w / ■ I Tracy Limerick, daughter of Alan and Paula Limerick, of North Liberty, has been selected as the DAR Good Citizen for John Glenn High School. Tracy was one of 25 seniors nominated by the faculty as Good Citizen candidates. Members of the senior class then voted to choose their Class of 1996 Good Citizen. She was chosen on the basis of the four qualities of a Good Citizen: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Tracy will now move on to the next level of com-
Heidi Lynn Attends Lugar Symposium Heidi Lynn, daughter of Cheri Lynn, of North Liberty, was selected to represent John Glenn High School at the 19th annual Richard Lugar Symposium for Tomorrow’s Leaders. Students must be strong leaders in their schools and have a high academic standing to be eligible. Heidi attended the symposium on Sat., Dec. 2, on the campus of the University of Indianapolis. High school juniors from across the state met with Senator Lugar and then attended special sessions on a variety of topics. Topics of sessions Heidi selected included juvenile crime, education and America’s role in the world. The Richard Lugar Symposium is held each year to bring together high school juniors to discuss current issues

As a school leader, 1 she has been president of : her class during all four years of high school. She has also held the position of drum major for the marching band and is co-editor of John Glenn’s literary magazine, The Aerial. She also works with the production of the Falcon Flyer and the high school yearbook. She demonstrates ’ her service and depen- 1 dability through her in- 1 volvement with her church • youth group and in the many activities she • organizes at school. Tracy plans to attend Lincoln 1 Christian College next fall and will major in the area 1 of counseling or nursing. 1
with leaders in politics, business and education. Heidi is a member of the varsity volleyball and tennis teams. She also participates in band. A member of the National Honor Society, Heidi has also been on the honor roll and has received an academic letter and the Spanish award. She attended the National Youth Conference and the Brethren Workshop. Heidi’s plans for after high school are to attend a four year college and study physical therapy, marine biology or social work.
Russell Clark Named Local Winner At JG Tools for Tomorrow, a national awards program sponsored by Servistar and Coast-To-Coast, strives to recognize the achievements of covational students. The program encourages vocational study by promoting vocational
education and providing financial assistance to students planning to pursue post-secondary education in this field. Students are considered at three levels: local, state and national. Local winners are selected by individual high schools and are awarded a SIOO U.S. Savings bond. John Glenn senior, Russell Clark has been chosen as our local winner. He will now move on to the state level where he will be a candidate for a SSOO bond. From here, winners go on to the national level. Ten national winners will receive SI,OOO bonds and 12 special merit honor students will receive SSOO bonds. National winners will also be invited to the semiannual conventions for Servistar and Coast-To-Coast. Russell was selected on the basis of the awards criteria which includes a personal commitment to vocational education, a successful record of participation in vocational programs and activities and overall academic achievement. Personal character, leadership and school/community activities are also considered. Russell plans to continue his education at Purdue University where he will study agricultural engineering or agribusiness management. Ranked in the top 15 percent of his class, Russell has had academic success in all of his classes, including vocational courses, he has been active in a variety of vocational organizations, including Future Farmers of America and 4-H. He has worked in the area of farming for the past 10 years and hopes to someday have his own farm. As a leader, Russell is the president of his church youth group and is vice president of FFA. State winners will be notified in February and national winners will be announced in mid-April. Russell will be recognized locally at John Glenn’s senior awards night this coming spring. David Guseilla Tandy Tech Scholar At JG The Tandy Technology Scholars program, which is sponsored by the Tandy Corp., offers an opportunity for all high schools to declare Champions of the Classroom by focusing on academic excellence. Each year, the program recognizes the top two percent of academic achievers in each senior class across the nation and exclusively recognizes one outstanding senior from each school who excels in the areas of mathematics, science or computer science. The names of Rebecca Grenert,
DAVID GUSEILLA Jacinda Pairitz and Joseph Pletcher have been submit- I ted for the top two percent award. Each of these students will receive his or her certificate at the spring awards night. David Guseilla, son of Dan and Kathy Guseilla, of Walkerton, has been selected by teachers in the areas I of mathematics, science and . computer science, as John Glenn’s Tandy Technology Scholar. David will compete for one of 100 cash awards of SI,OOO. Along with excellence in the classroom, David also achieves excellence in athletics as captain of the varsity football and track teams and as a member of the varsity basketball team. He is a three year member of the National Honor Society and has received several academic awards. David plans to study chemistry in college and is presently considering several schools, including RoseHulman, Butler University and Purdue. Tandy technology awards will be announced in April, 1996. Janice Ryan Promoted At Ist Source Bank Janice Ryan, Walkerton, has been promoted to loan services officer at Ist Source Bank, according to Richard Q. Stifel, executive vice president. Ryan joined the bank in 1990 as a documentation specialist in commercial loan services and was

She previously worked as a financial planner for IDS Financial Services and spent more than nine years at the former Farmers State Bank of Wyatt as an installment, I mortgage and commercial . loan officer. Ryan attended Ball State University and is currently pursuing a degree in business and finance at Indiana University, South Bend.
