The family of Don and Barb Eberly gathered at their home on Sage Road, North Liberty, on Thanksgiving Day to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Attending were five of their six children and their spouses, Joanne and Terry Knowlton, of Walkerton; Jennifer and John PatterHarold Pontius To Celebrate 90th Birthday Harold Pontius, of Walkerton, will be celebrating his 90th birthday with an open house, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m., on Sunday, Dec. 3, at the Blissville Church of the Brethren. The church is located on the Plymouth-LaPorte Trail south of Swan Lake Golf Club. Mr. Pontius was born on Dec. 6, 1905, to Lawrence and Lucy Pontius. He was the oldest child, having one brother, Paul and a sister, Anna Harmon. On Dec. 5, 1925, he married Blanche Burget who passed away on Feb. 21, 1990. They Pontiuses had 10 children. Their seven sons are Lawrence, Bob and Kenny, of Walkerton; Don, of Florida; Dick, of Ft. Wayne; Jim, of Mishawaka and Carl Dwight, who is deceased. Their three daughters are Dorothy Hayn, of Plymouth; Esther Bradley, of Mishawaka and Betty Schmeltz, of Walkerton. They also have 28 grandchildren, 37 greatgrandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Mr. Pontius was employed by Haas Concrete, from which he retired in Sept, of 1971. The company of family and friends at the event will he the only gift requested.

Julie and Greg Phelps and grandson, Matt Hull, of El Grenada, California, were unable to attend. Mr. Pontius lives at 19842 W. 3rd Road, Walkerton, for anyone wishing to send a card. Steve Snell Accepted Into Natl Society Steve Snell, son of Lew and Josie Snell, Walkerton, a 1994 graduate of John Glenn and an Aeronautical Engineering student at Purdue, has recently been accepted into Sigma Gamma Tau Society, the national honor society for aerospace engineering. Sigma Gamma Tau’s collegiate chapters elect annually to membership those students, alumni and professionals who by conscientious attention to their studies or professional duties uphold this high standard for the betterment of their profession. Sigma Gamma Tau was founded in 1953 on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette. The objectives of Sigma Gamma Tau, as stated in the preamble of the society’s national constitution, are: “to recognize and honor those individuals in the field of aeronautics and astronautics who have, through scholarship, integrity and outstanding achievement, been a credit
to their profession. The society seeks to foster a high standard of ethics and professional practice and to create a spirit of loyalty and fellowship, particularly among students of aerospace engineering/* BIRTH Mr. and Mrs. Charles K. Porter, Jr., of Plymouth, are the parents of a son, Christian Michael, born on Nov. 12. He weighed in at six pounds and 15 ounces and measured 20 inches long. Paternal grandparents are Charles and Christine Porter, of Walkerton and maternal grandparents are Robert and Vera Zellers, of North Liberty.

Words do not seem adequate to express my feelings at this time of sorrow and pain. I thank our children for the devotion you showed us both, even when things went from bad to worse, especially Joshua for the many sleepless nights we cared for Bill. To our precious grandson, Devin, for making ‘Grampa’ so very happy. To Bill’s mom and my mom and dad for the love and help you gave without complaint. To our sisters, brothers and other family members, thank you for all you did. To the many wonderful friends who stood by us always, I express sincere gratitude. I thank Dr. Rafat Ansari and his precious staff, Dr. Daniel Kletzing, Mary Jo and Jill and to Hospice of St. Joseph County for helping to make Bill’s final journey happy, dignified and peaceful. I will forever be gratefill. I also wish to thank Joe Rannells for the loving concern and compassion that he showed both to Bill and our family. God bless you, Joe! And a very special thanks to Father Mike for giving Bill the | strength to meet our Lord without fear and me the strength to let him go. You were always there for me, and the hours you sat with me the night Bill died are precious memI ories. And finally, I want to thank Bill for all the happy years we shared.
