Wild Wednesday With Mr. Nature BMf w-i^WP l JkßjMbl p W ft I Ivft

Pictured above are Paul Wright and Danny Shaw examining different types of soil found in Indiana. One fall Wednesday, things got “WILD,” in North Liberty. Literally. Students in every class participated in activities to learn about wildlife and the environment. All grades participated in different activities to learn more about the Earth and i our environment. Sixth

graders learned about types of soil in Indiana while third graders gathered seeds on their ‘fur’ which was socks they wore over shoes and sleeves, and played predator-prey which involves hiding to keep from being eaten. The fourth graders played Animal Rummy while fifth graders played a survival game where each had to gather enough food to live. The upper grades wound up their day with a visit from “Mr. Nature.” Mr. Nature, who is Rick Glassman, from St. Joseph County Soil & Water Conservation District, a frequent guest at North Liberty, held a convocation where the students learned and reviewed the necessities for all life, about many types of bugs, birds and animals, about photosynthesis and many other topics . . . au natural. PLANNING MY FUTURE PROGRAM AT UREY The eighth grade class at Urey Middle School recently completed the “Planning My Future” program as part of their Careers Preparation class. The “Planning My Future” program is a self-directed computer program that uses interests and abilities inventories to help the students make informed choices about their high school and career paths. Many of the students printed out a possible career choice to take home to share with their parents. The results of each students personal career search in the “Planning My Future” program will be used by the student, parents and counselor to form a four-year class plan (Core 40) for high school. This four-year class plan is a stepping stone to forming a career choice and a career plan. For additional information contact Mrs. Marnie
