A First. . . Girls & Boys Basketball? A first . . . girls and boys basketball games will be played on the John Glenn court, this Saturday evening, when the John Glenn girls varsity basketball team will play in the opener for the night the Oregon-Davis girls varsity team. This will be followed by the boys varsity action. The boys and girls junior varsity squads will not be left out as they will play tonight, Thursday, Nov. 30, at OregonDavis, beginning at 6:30 p.m. I have been told that in years gone by that this style of basketball scheduling was dpne. I am sure that it will increase the attendance as well as other aspects of the atmosphere of rivalry as the Falcons and Bobcats square off Saturday, Dec. 2. Plan now to attend this momentous occasion, get your bag of pop com, pick out your seat and be sure and cheer for your team as the action is sure to be unforgetable. JG Education Association Rejects Proposed Salary Increase The John Glenn Education Association has rejected a 3 percent salary increase offered by the John Glenn School Board for the 1995-96 school year and a 3 percent increase for the 1996-97 school year. In addition, the School Board offered an increase in positions and pay for extracurricular duties, a vision insurance plan along with $90.00 a year towards the premium, and improvements in severance pay. A 3 percent pay raise is equal to the State average teacher increase for the 1995-96 school year. The proposed increase would place the starting salary for a beginning teacher at $25,343 and would top out at $43,304 for a teacher at the top of the master’s schedule. In addition, a teacher with a master’s degree with an additional 24 hours of credit would earn $50,294. The proposed salary increase would make the average salary increase over the past three years 8.7 percent including increment for experience. A teacher without experience increases has averaged 5.1 percent a year during the last three years. The John Glenn School Board has provided the teachers with exceptional salary increases in the past and is offering a fair and very reasonable salary for the next two years. The proposal rejected by the John Glenn Education Association would cost the corporation two-thirds of the 1996 new revenue. The 3 percent salary offer was made to the teachers during a mediation session on Monday, Nov. 27, 1995. The Indiana Employment Relations Board mediator recommended the 3 percent state average settlement. The School Board moved from their previous 2 percent offer. The teachers remain unchanged in their request for a 4 percent raise increase.
