WILDCATS WIN OVER LaVILLE The Walkerton fifth grade boys basketball team played host to LaVille last Thursday evening. All of the players saw action and helped the B-team to an exciting 12-10 victory. Kyle Stull led the way for Walkerton with six points; Kurtis Kampe chipped in four points; Ross Gilman and Tony Holston finished the scoring with two points each. Walkerton’s A-team trailed by two points, 10-8 at halftime, but came back to grab the lead and build it to five in the fourth quarter. LaVille kept fighting and trimmed the lead to one point. The Wildcats were victorious with a thrilling 23-22 win. Scoring for the Wildcats were Ryan Stout with five points; Jared Pletcher with four; Clinton Williams, 4; Rocky Smith, 3; Josh Rizek, Andy Stull and Adam Rodriguez each with two points apiece and Daniel Halpin with one point. The Wildcats sixth grade will play host to the LaVille team on Tuesday, Nov. 28 and the fifth grade team will host Triton in a big game on Dec. 6 at Walkerton Elementary. The Bteam action begins at 4:30 p.m. and the A-team action at 5:30 p.m. Lady Falcons Down Wildcats And Dragons The high-flying Lady Falcon eagers racked up two impressive victories last week as they improved to 31 on the young girls basketball campaign. The Falcons downed South Bend Riley 55-48 in a hard fought contest at Glenn, on Tuesday night and then administered a 72-38 thumping to the Lady Dragons at Argos on Friday evening. Coach Scott Hostetler’s charges return to the local hardwood tonight (Wed.) in an important Northern States Conference battle with arch-rival Bremen. The Lions roar into town as one of the pre-season favorites to capture the league title. The visitors are 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference action and tonight’s fray will give the Falcons, 1-0 in NSC warfare, a good idea of just how well they will stack up in this season’s conference race. The Falcons will have to hold Bremen’s high scoring 6-1 senior center, Jenny Reed, in check if they hope to improve to 2-0 in conference play. Reed is
I averaging over 21 points a game. The Falcons then travel to two-time defending sectional champion Plymouth Tuesday night for a nonconference engagement. The Lady Pilgrims are still loaded with experience and talent and will be another real test for the young and scrappy Falcons. FALCONS STOP WILDCATS The Falcons jumped to an early lead in the initial period and led 14-7 over the Wildcats at the first stop in Tuesday’s contest. The local girls continued to dominate in the second stanza and took a five-point bulge. to the dressing room at the intermission, 28-23. The visitors came out strong to start the second half as they outscored the home team 14-10 in the third segment to cut the Falcons margin to a single point at the third stop, 3837. The Falcons regained their composure in the final eight minutes of play, building a 10 point spread midway in the quarter and were never seriously challenged the rest of the way. Sophomore Heidi Wasteney had 14 points and six rebounds, Tracey Futa 10 points and Angel Dietrich seven rebounds to pace the Falcons attack. Joanna Lugo led the losers with 17 points. The Falcons shot extremely well from the 15foot stripe making 15 of 20 attempts for a very good 75 percent. The Wildcats got to the line only 13 times and converted on only six attempts. to 0-2. Glenn led 10-4 at the end of the first quarter and were on top 16-4 at the halfway point. The winners exploded to a 30-6 lead to start the final frame. Jennifer Traub led a well balanced Falcon attack with 10 points. She was followed by Tammy Wasteney with seven, Becca Strahm, six; Danielle Ludwig with four, Holly Legge, Lexia Drews, Lynna Potts and Alissa Fuentes each having two points. JV LOSES FIRST Glenn’s junior varsity suffered its first loss of the young season, dropping a diappointing 40-38 decision to Riley in Tuesday night’s preliminary tilt. The loss snapped a school record 14 straight wins for the locals who had also won 22 of their last 24 outings. The Falcons enjoyed an 11-8 advantage at the first stop but fell behind 21-15 at the intermission. The locals put on a furious rally in the third quarter to take a narrow 26-24 lead into the final six minute segment. But the Falcons could not hold on in a high scoring fourth quarter. Lynna Potts and Lexia Drews each had 10 points to lead the Falcons. Also scoring for the locals were Holly Legge with six, Tammy Wasteney with four, Jennifer Traub had two, Becca Strahm, two, Alissa Fuentes, two and Danielle Ludwig, two. Mary Patterson, of Riley, led all scorers with 18 points. FALCONS POUND ARGOS Tracey Futa had 17 points, Lindsay O’Connor 13 points, eight steals and four assists, Bridget Honaker 11 tallies and Beth Honaker 10 rebounds to lead the Falcons 34 point pounding of Argos. It was Glenn’s third straight win since a season opening loss at LaSalle. Glenn took any question out of the final outcome early as they sprinted to a comfortable 20-6 lead at the end of the first period of play. The Falcons continued the onslaught in the second frame to lead by a whopping 30 points at halftime, 44-14. The black clad visitors led 56-21 at the start of the final chapter and then coasted to an easy victory. An agressive Falcon defense forced the outmanned Dragons into 32 turnovers that led to many easy Glenn buckets. The winners were whistled for 19 fouls and the Dragons were called for 18 fouls. The Falcons shot at a fine 74 percent from the charity stripe, hitting on 17 of 23 attempts. Argos was just 13 of 30 from the 15 foot stripe for 43 percent.

The classes will meet at the 1534 W. Sample St. campus. “Advanced AutoCAD, Grades 4 -8” teaches kids to design their own playground, using the computer to edit and add color to their ideas. Kid’s Tech AutoCAD I” is a prerequisite. The fee is $35. The class meets two Saturdays, Dec. 2 and 9, from 9 to 11 a.m. Wildlife Tracking and Stalking Skills, Grades 4 - 8

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 189 will be participating in Family Week, Nov. 19-25, with a Nature Walk, on Saturday, Nov. 25. Those wishing to join in the nature walk will gather at the home of Gary and Mary Clark, at 11 a.m. From the Clark home everyone will walk the trails of life and look at all the wild creatures in our woods. Afterwards we will have lunch which will be provided. Bring your own beverage, please. Anyone interested in spending time with their children or grandchildren are invited to spend the afternoon in an atmosphere of what life is really about.
