Did you know the present contract lowered our rates more than 1/3 from the previous contract? Did you know this changed our rates from some of the highest in the state to some of the lowest for the size of our town? Do you know how this was done? It was done largely through the efforts of Greg Williams who was president of the Town Council. He formed the first Electrical Energy Board, contacted and joined seven other towns, and the eight acting as a single entity hired a firm known

KOONTZ LAKE LIONS REBUILD PARK The Koontz Lake Lions Club has undertaken a large rebuilding project at their park. The Lions would like to do some remodeling in their clubhouse and enclose the pavilion attached to the existing structure. Building a new pavilion, adding new

nationwide as Electrical Energy Specialist to negotiate a contract with a power company, Three companies bid on our business and NIPSCo won it. In addition to this Greg found out during the last few months of the old contract it was possible and legal to wheel in any power from another supplier that exceeded the minimum the NIPSCo contract called for. This was done and it saved the town many thousands of dollars. Today we have a great town with all top notch utilities, employees and equipment and are the envy of many towns around us. A lot of this is due to the work and foresight of Greg, his Electrical Energy Board and the Town Council. Wouldn’t it be wise to have Greg on the Town Council again to work with the Electrical Energy Board?

playground equipment and repairing the old equipment are also in the future plans of the Lions. This revitalization project began this summer, when the Lions had a work detail to put a new roof on the clubhouse. To fund these projects, the Lions have had numerous pancake breakfasts, a shotgun raffle and most recently an antique tractor raffle. The Lions bought a 1952 John Deere B tractor, had it restored and then raffled it off on Oct. 8. The lucky winner was Kyle Laßere, 12, of Walkerton. The Lions have another tractor raffle planned for next summer so look for the Lions and their tractor at the area fairs and festivals next summer. The Koontz Lake and Hamlet Lions Club sent an Oregon-Davis Elementary teacher for training in the QUEST program last spring. This program provides teachers with strategies to teach children about life skills to deal with adolescence, peer pressure and substance abuse issues. This is a very useful

program for use in our schools. We can do many fantastic things for the community of Koontz lake, but it takes manpower. In order to make the Lions Park a fun and safe place for the kids to play, we need your help. If you are interested in donating some time to benefit your community, please come and join us for a meeting on the first and third Monday of each month at the park, at 7 p.m. IN MEMORY In loving memory of Thomas M.
