p.m. SPORTS NEWS The John Glenn varsity volleyball team concluded this past week splitting four matches. Glenn defeated Oregon-Davis and Knox and fell to Plymouth and LaPorte. The Falcons played one of their finer matches of the season in defeating a strong O-D club (16-14, 15-11). Offensively the Falcon attack was led by the impressive performance of Beth Honaker who had 7 kills. Holly Legge added 3 kills while Kristin Miller and Lindsav O’Connor combined for 11
assists. Defensively Glenn was led by the 13 digs of Angel Dietrich, 9 digs of Heidi Wasteney, and 6 blocks of Beth Honaker. After dropping matches to Plymouth (15-8, 15-12) and 19th ranked LaPorte (15-3, 15-2), the Falcons traveled to Knox and defeated the Redskins (15-9, 15-8). Defense was the key as the Falcons frustrated Knox into numerous mistakes. Angel Dietrich contributed 10 digs while Holly Legge added 3 blocks. Offensively the 3 aces of Suzanne Drews paced the Glenn serving attack. Also contributing to the attack were Beth Honaker with 4 kills and Lindsay O’Connor with 4 assists. The J.V. Falcons salvaged their week with a strong performance against a fine LaPorte team and a victory over Knox (15-7, 10-15, 15-2).
