Plans are underway for the Walkerton Junior Miss Program that will be held on Saturday, October 28, at the John Glenn High School Auditorium. Ticket prices are $7.00 preschool to adult and $4.00 under pre-school age. The theme for this year's program is “The Fifties.’’ Approximately 20 girls will represent the schools of Knox, Oregon-Davis, LaVille and John Glenn. Mrs. Jill Hostetler will be representing Province 12 and Walkerton Epsilon Chi as a member of the Indiana State scholarship committee. Committee reports were shared. The Little League committee had a very busy summer manning the concession stand at the Walkerton Park. A donation will be given to the Youth League program.
Our Kiddie’s Day parade was a huge success. Nearly 40 children were involved in the parade during the Walkerton Fourth of July festivities. The community was a big part of making the parade a success. Program books were distributed by Diane Feeney to all members. Anyone needing insert sheets should contact Diane. Also, hostesses for the year and monthly ' programs were shared. Hostesses for the evening were Lori Jacob, Sandy Thomas, Linda Relos and Eileen Clark. The next meeting of the chapter will be on Thursday, October 5, at 7:00 p.m. NORTH LIBERTY The Zeta Pi Chapter of Tri Kappa initiated three new members of Wednesday, September 14 at the North Liberty Methodist Church. ‘ Those initiated were Angie Buysse, Kathy Ganser and Eileen Wyant. Following the ceremony a pot luck dinner was held in the fellowship hall. The president, Pam Wallace, called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Members received their yearbooks and a history report from the historian. Reports on the Potato Creek Festival and ideas were given for our fall project. Vice-president, Anne Shortt, brought up an idea on how to raise money for Riley Childrens Hospital. Also she discussed getting together to make Riley dolls. After the meeting the new members provided entertainment for the chapter. The next meeting will be held on Wednesday, October 11, at 7:00 p.m. at the North Liberty Community Building. R.E.A.L. SERVICE NEWS WALKERTON On Monday we had a real nice time with Verl Haag and Florence Seekings playing their guitars and singing for us. Florence brought guests from New York with her. Everyone enjoyed the day. Tuesday we made plans to go out to lunch together. On Wednesday Florence Seekings & Sam Madonna sang and played their guitars. We had blood pressures taken for anyone that wanted it. Sam Madonna gave the prayer before the meal. Thursday we had a large crowd in attendance to see a clown act given by a mother and daughter. We hope they will come back again soon to entertain us. Mildred McKesson gave the table prayer. Friday we had our regular sing-a-long with Virginia Anhold leading the singing while Verice Walz played the piano. Just before the meal Morris Searfoss led us in prayer. Dates coming up: The September and October birthday party is coming up soon. October 12, Maxine Worthington and friends will be here to play and sing. October 25, Florence Seekings and Sam Madonna to entertain us. SENIOR CARD CLUB NEWS The senior citizens of the area play cards at the Walkerton REAL Services site, on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. The results of the action of Sept. 19 and 21 games are as follows: In euchre Vi Masterman had 77; Audrey Solmos, 75; Ruth Ullery, 70; and Thelma Dill, 69. At the pinochle tables the winners were Milner Capes, 397; Marilyn Stull, 390; Audrey Solmos, 379 and Helen Verkier, 370. VOLUNTEERS NEEDED Attention to willing workers! Volunteers are being sought at Starke Memorial Hospital, Knox, for the True Blue Corps. The True Blue Corps is looking for dedicated and caring men and women to volunteer in a variety of areas that could be of assistance in helping others. Volunteers are entitled to a free flu shot, a discount in the cafeteria,
