Cookie Milk LATE RETURN POLICY TO CHANGE AT WALKERTON LIBRARY In the past the library has let overdue fines collect to $5.00 before revoking a patron’s borrowing privileges. In recent years this practice has become abused. Because of this the Walkerton library has decided on a new policy concerning overdue fines. The change will go into effect on October Ist. Anyone who incurs overdue fines may not check out more materials until that fine is paid in full. The $5.00 cut off was put in effect because the librarians knew that anyone could be late occasionally with their materials. This leeway was set up so that the patrons could still check out materials if they did not remember to bring money that day. It was assumed the fine would be taken care of on the next visit. Unfortunately many people have

started to use this as away to avoid paying fines. Just a reminder, overdue fines are 10 cents a day or 50 cents a week per item. This is for all items, large or small. Sometimes the fine can quickly add up to more than the item cost. But please remember that when you keep items out you are keeping them from someone else. That hurts the library’s business in the same way that returning videos late hurts movie stores. If people can’t get the material they want because it is overdue, they go to another library. If you have trouble returning items please feel free to call the library to renew them. This can be
