EDITORIAL
THANK YOU I personally want to thank each and everyone of our advertisers, big or small, for your cooperation with me and my staff, Cheryl Hunsley, Myrna Daube and every now and then Virginia Markle, for having the faith in The Independent to get your message out to the area. You know as well as I do that it takes a joint effort on all of our parts to make a success of our businesses. Thanks again! Susan (Sue) Urbin LESSONS TO BE LEARNED (LESSON NO. 1) GLITCH A misfunction in machinery! Oh boy, did we ever have a glitch loose in the paper office last week. First it struck our chemicals — then a motor — then the staff. Total shut down! Well we never gave up! After a few phone calls we had the right chemicals coming our way. Chemicals arrived — motor goes out to move the chemicals through the processor to develop our style of typesetting. Into the dark room we go, rubber gloves on and ready to operate. Nothing, absolutely nothing! Thanks to a friend who has only been in the area for a few years, Frank Alan, publisher of “The Leader” at Knox, with so little time and so much to be done, we hit the road. Articles, menus, rulers, tools, etc., in tow. He was most gracious to let Cheryl and I use his computers to set our type for the paper. At this point we knew we would not meet our mailing deadline. But onward we went to complete another issue so we could at least get a paper out for our readers and generous advertisers. With many typo errors — you all received a paper. Time ran out when we were in the process of proof reading and some of the staff in Knox were not at all familiar with our layout and mistakes happened. The staff at “The Leader” must also be thanked as we could not put out a paper without their help. Thanks girls! Pump arrived on Friday. Now we need someone to install the pump, with phone book in hand we finally have one lined up, on the holiday weekend no less. Saturday afternoon the pump was installed — Bingo! VJe are back in business. (LESSON NO. 2) GOSSIP 1. Easy, fluent, trivial talk - an instance of this, she dropped in for a gossip-talk about people behind their backs. A person who indulges in gossip. 2. v.i. to talk idly, chatter, esp. about people! We understand that alot of talk has resulted in the delay of the past issue. Let me say this just once ... I will tell you all through the pages of the paper if and when I sell the Independent. Granted we are having a rough time of it at the present but in time all should work out. I have confidence . . . won’t you have a little confidence too, as well as patience, understanding and most of all cooperation and willingness to get us all, readers and advertisers, in a joint effort for the betterment of the communities. (LESSON NO. 3) APPEARANCE The appearance of the past issue drew again alot of comments — “Look what she has done with the paper” “Man alive this is different” “Oh-oh, this is to much for me, I’m not sure I like this” Well there will be changes in the appearance of YOUR local paper. I have some plans, to be worked out at this time, to do some changes not only in appearance but also in different aspects of the paper. They may appeal to you and then they many not, but one thing is for certain . . .one way or another I promise to get a paper out each week. Susan (Sue) Urbin Editor-Publisher Printer’s Devil

A core group of students and soloists will be selected from each school to work closely with Mr. Stanley to sing special songs for parents, friends, and relatives during a final performance. During the 3rd week Mr. Stanley and the music teachers will take the soloists to a recording studio to produce a professional cassette recording of the songs taught them as well as an original song specifically written for the host schools.
