NEW PROGRAM AT SHADY LANES “Bowlers First” will be introduced in Walkerton this season at the Shady Lanes Bowling Center. “Bowlers First” is a recruiting program for sanctioned league bowlers and is a joint effort between the local men’s and women’s bowling association and the proprietors group. When a current bowler recruits a new bowler for a league, the Shady Lanes will pay the sanction fee for the new bowler as well as the fee for the recruiting bowler. Bowlers who bring in more than one new bowler will receive a SIO.OO bonus for each additional new bowler recruited. A new bowler is someone who has not bowled in any league, sanctioned or unsanctioned, in the past three years. “This is our way of saying thank you to our bowlers for helping us recruit new bowlers,” says Candy Collins, proprietor. The Bowlers First program was responsible for more than 10,000 new bowlers last season in Ohio and Indiana. The 1995-96 goal is 68,000 new league bowlers in 22 states and Canada.
