sM#S^ • v rjWvvMr? - "‘ NORTH LIBERTY By Gladys Sheneman On Thursday, August 10, Lola Pavey along with Jack and Shirley Norris enjoyed her 88th birthday at the Ponderosa, in Plymouth. Callers later were Joan Murphy, of Columbia City, Dave and Evelyn Davis, of Plymouth and neighbors, Martha Snyder and Mary Schlemmer. Lola received many telephone calls and lots of cards from all her many friends. Congratulations goes to Richard Mangus, of Lakeville, our state representative, who was honored at the State Fair this week for serving 30 years as 4-H leader. He received a special pin. Over the years he has had 13 top winners who were awarded a trip to Washington D.C. He began competing in 4-H in 1940. His dairy heifer won grand champion in 1946 netting him a S4OO a semester scholarship at Purdue University. So you see kids, 4-H does pay off. I know because I won on my project once and got to take it to the State Fair. Our sympathy this week goes to Lynn Schmidt, State Road 4, west of North Liberty, as she lost her mother last week in Florida, Patricia Stasko Nukala, formerly of Walkerton. Relatives and friends met Saturday at the Schmidt home where a memorial service was held after which dinner was served to about 80 under a huge tent put up in the back yard. Please remember Lynn and family. Ethel Rauen returned home Sunday evening after spending the past two weeks with her son, Frank Jr. and family, in Monett, Missouri. While there they went to

Branson and attended the Lawrence Welk show and also the Andy Williams show. Her daughter, Joan and Travis Holmes and Kari Williams met her and Frank half way on Saturday and then they all stayed at Jay and Kari’s Saturday night and returned home on Sunday evening. Twenty-two ‘Over the Hill Gang’ of the Church of Christ boarded two church vans last Tuesday at 10:30 and went to the Das Dutchman Essenhaus Restaurant, near Middlebury, where all enjoyed a delicious dinner. Then all toured the grounds which are beautiful and visited the bakery and craft barn before returning home. It was a fun day. Congratulations goes to Mr. and Mrs. Richard Ruff who celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary at the home of their daughter. They were planning a reunion with lifelong friends, Lois Norris, Lucille Morris and Mary Hope Winegar, as they had not been together in thirty years. But they really got surprised when 120 of their relatives and friends arrived to help them celebrate their anniversary. A pot luck dinner was enjoyed by all and for sure they will never forget their 45th wedding anniversary. They live in Englewood, Florida during the winter. On August 20, Sunday morning at 8:30 at Peppermint Hill the United Methodist Church of Teegarden with Tim Davis, their pastor, will hold the special service for the campers. Mr. and Mrs. Glen Cox and family, of Canada, are visiting his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Cox, on New Road and other relatives and friends while here. Tim McCormick, son of Tom McCormick, left Monday for Plainfield, where he will study to

become an Indiana State Policeman man. We wish him well.
