ing the importance of St. Joseph County parks interpretive program and recreational activities to the John Glenn Educational program A motion was made by Ben Smith, seconded by Tom McCormick, to approve a resolution supporting the importance of St. Joseph County Parks Interpretative program and recreational activities to the John Glenn educational program. The resolution was approved by a six to zero vote. REPORTS 1. Superintendent’s Report Dave McKee, superintendent, reported to the school board on discussions with the Walkerton Town Board on closing of the alley from Kentucky Street onto school property, the deeding of a 10 foot wide strip of property on the north side of Urey to the Town to allow for a public right-of-way from Washington Street onto school property and the vacating of Adams Street south of the alley onto school property. The Walkerton Town Board postponed action on the request at their last meeting and planned to meet with citizens in the area to view the proposals firsthand and then reconsider the request at the July 17 meeting. The school board reconfirmed their support of having the proposed changes take place. b. JGHS and UMS Construction Reports Construction on the projects at John Glenn High School are moving forward as scheduled. Work on the new track is to begin next
week and the new lights for the football field are scheduled to arrive at John Glenn High School the week of July 24, 1995. The baseball and tennis courts have been layed out and drainage is being installed. The footers for the concession stand/restroom/ pressbox building have been poured. Actual construction on Urey Middle School is expected to start on July 17. The contractors on the Urey Middle School project are interested in getting as much work done as possible before the start of the school year. 2. Reports to Board a. Conferences Approved b. Conference Reports The Board received a written report on conferences approved and conferences attended by school personnel. NEXT MEETING DATE The next regular meeting of the John Glenn School Board will be on July 25 at John Glenn High School at 7:30 p.m. The school board will meet in special budget work sessions on July 13 and 18 at John Glenn High School at 7:30 p.m. ADJOURNMENT The school board meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m. SERVICE AT PARK Sunday, August 13th the Walkerton United Methodist Church will have the 8:30 a.m. Worship Service at Peppermint Hill in Potato Creek State Park. On August 20th, the service will return to the Pines through Labor Dav weekend. Seotember 3rd. The public is cordially invited. Wear your white dress and join us for a march from the Northern Indiana Center for History to Courthouse Square on the comer of Washington and Lafayette where recitation of powerful, historic speeches will be given. March begins at 9:00 a.m. at the Northern Indiana Center for History. August 26 - 25 — The West Washington Art Fair will be held on the grounds of the Northern Indiana Center for History. Over 25 local and regional artists will be on site to sell their works of art. There will be music by local performers and activities for children including story peddlers, story tellers, a hands-on weaving project, face painters, a magician and balloon man.
