To Mrs. Williams, You are very right. I wish I had the proof. If I had obtained the letter Mr. Smith wrote his team and their parents, which insulted the other teams and the coaches, I would have taken it to the league and requested his resignation. However, after being promised a copy from one of the not so happy Royal parents, she backed out. Afraid it might be learned where I obtained it. I left your sons name out of it because I did not want to humiliate him any further than he already had. As for taking my son from the league, however, I refuse! Why punish him for others wrong doings? You can’t always shield your kids from the ugliness of everyday life. The Cardinals coaches, Gene Hockett, Dick Reese and Dennis Holland did an excellent job. Not only were the fundamentals of the game taught but so was sportsmanship, how to play as a team, and above all to have fun. Winning the season proves that. I was very surprised your son won the mental attitude award for the team. Especially after that

Congratulations Jessica Meuninck FOR MAKING THE DEAN’S LIST FOR GRADUATING WITH HONORS FOR HAVING YOUR FIRST PROFESSIONAL JOB Good Luck AT ELKHART MEMORIAL HIGH SCHOOL TO KNOW YOU IS TO LOVE YOU TYLER, MOTHER AND DAD incident. At the awards your son brought you his awards and complained about not winning the big trophy. Again, winning isn’t everything. Thou shalt not covet thy neighbors house. . . I heard other parents make comments like "They meant attitude award,’’ “Maybe mental award.” I had nothing to do with these comments but I did enjoy them. I will not get into your parenting skills, that rests on your conscience. But I will say you sent my son the wrong message. I try very hard to enstill values in my children. I demand respect, and expect them to respect all adults, even when they do not agree with them. Screaming obscenities is forbidden. As for being ashamed of myself as a Christian and a grown up. It is you who should be ashamed. I would be if I heard my son yell such things. I never claimed to be perfect, for only God is divine. As for volunteering to be a coach or running for president of the league, maybe I will. I have the utmost respect for all the dedicated, hardworking people who put their time and hearts into these children. Children are every adults responsability, not just the parent of the child. When an adult sends the wrong message lots of children are hurt. As for omitting my name, I did that for my son. He doesn’t need to be threatened by a hot tempered Royal fan. And remember, I didn’t tell everyone your sons name, you did. Again I’ll sign as: A Cardinal Fan Excel Program In Effect At Ivy Tech Full-time first generation college students attending Ivy Tech State College at South Bend this fall may apply for a special student support services program, Excel, to help them achieve their educational goal. In addition to students who are the first in their families to attend college, the program also assists those in Ipw-income situations and those with disabilities. Established two years ago with a grant from the U.S. Department of Education, the program will continue for the 1995-96 academic year with a $180,745 grant renewal. Tracy Mooers-Younce, Excel program director, says the program’s success is demonstrated by a retention rate of students continuing with their college classes that is 30 percent above the retention rate of the college as a whole. First generation, low income and disabled students interested in applying to participate in the program this fall should do so now. Services are limited to 175 students. For more information about the program, call Ivy Tech State College at South Bend at 219-289-7001, ext. 8-412.
