Lloyd and Dorothy Miller had their grandchildren, Jessica, Jodi and Ryan Hunt from Little Rock, Arkansas, as guests last week. Kelly and Kimberly Hunt from Indianapolis also joined them on Thursday. Gail and Mae McDaniel called on Glen McDaniel on Friday who is a patient in Riverside Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Then they spent the weekend with their daughter, Gail Edna and family in Bryon, Ohio. Mr. and Mrs. Bert Morris celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house held Sunday afternoon at the Family Center at the Church of Christ. Those out of town attending were Mr. and Mrs. Ron Vernon, Bob and Jan Gordon of Ohio, Scott Morris, grandson from Roanoke, Virginia, Richard Morris, son from Wisconsin, Mr. and Mrs. Guy Morris, of Anderson and many other friends from Indianapolis, Mishawaka, South Bend and the surrounding area. A four-tiered beautiful wedding cake was baked and decorated by Virginia Annis. They received many lovely cards and gifts and it was a lovely party, one they will never forget. So congratulations and best wishes from all your many friends. Gene and Norma Patrick spent the weekend camping out at Beaver Creek Ridge where they met some other North Liberty friends and really had an enjoyable time altogether. Mr. and Mrs. Ron Vernon, of Ohio, spent the weekend with Roger and Fran Morris and attended the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Morris. So sorry to report that our Bortz Feed Store closed its doors for good on Saturday. We are certainly
going to miss this store in our downtown as they had a lot of merchandise which was so nice to go there and buy. Sure hate to see the big stores running our little stores out of business, how about you? The Blissville Church served over 500 people Saturday evening at their ice cream social. Would you believe they made 87 gallons of ice cream including vanilla, pineapple, strawberry, black walnut, pecan, chocolate and diet ice cream. Many from North Liberty and I thought it was the best ice cream they have ever made. Mid DeVos is still in Memorial Hospital and needs our prayers and a get well card. Well, as you all know, the 4th of July has come and gone and even though we had a shower of rain just before time for the parade, the parade started on time. I’m told it was a good parade, not quite as long as most years due to the weather. Sorry I had to miss it as I think it was the first time I ever missed it, but I celebrated at home with the flu. I did enjoy the fireworks from my porch swing in the front yard and they were beautiful. I’m told Walkerton’s fireworks were really a treat to see. Gloria Sheneman recently returned from a ten day trip to England with a group of church friends and while there visited London, Dover, Canterbury and many other interesting places. Would you believe Ruth Cullar celebrated her 99th birthday last Monday, July 3rd at the home of her daughter, Joanne Carter with a luncheon. Those attending were Fay Mangus, John and Jane Cullar, of Kokomo, Dave and Donna Middleton, of Fort Wayne, Rick and Alice Carter and son Grant and daughter Lauren. So happy birthday Ruth from all your North Liberty friends. Her address is: Milton Home, 206 E. Marion Street, South Bend, Indiana 46601. Oh yes, Francis and Martha Snyder called in the afternoon. Dave and Pam Craft and daughter Sara spent the weekend in Bowling Green, Kentucky. While there they visited Dave’s brother, Ed and Tina Craft and their son Bryon who is employed at the Horse Cave Theater and is really doing great. So happy to report that the owners of Sunshine Holiday Laundry & Professional Dry Cleaners have acquired the North Liberty laundromat. They are in the process of remodeling to serve the customers better. It will be a selfservice laundromat but for your dry cleaning needs they invite you to visit their Walkerton Store. John and Gloria Sheneman attended the wake for Gloria’s aunt, Agnes Hermanowski, in Berwyn, Illinois, last Friday. Ethel Rauen spent last Thursday and Friday with her brother, Wesley Mack and his wife in Wanatah and attended the funeral of her cousin, Jacob Mack on Friday. Please remember Charles Sheneman who is very ill and needs our prayers. His address is 1373 Squire Drive, Apt. B, Georgetown, South Bend, IN 46637. He would be happy to hear from his North Liberty friends. SALYER REALTY BRUCE SALYER Broker-Appraiser 586-7753 MLS MEMBER SOUTH BEND-MISHAWAKA AND MARSHALL COUNTY 44*1
