NORTH LIBERTY By Gladys Sheneman Carl and Barbara Zimmerle, Jerry and Marlyn Willoughby, of South Bend, and Grant and LuAnne Poytner, of Kokomo, spent a few days last sightseeing in Lexington, Kentucky, at the Horse Park. They visited Shaker Town Village and Bardstown, Kentucky and had a very enjoyable trip all together. On Sunday Carl and Barbara Zimmerle called their son Gary and family and helped him celebrate his birthday. Martha McCrosky and Gladys Sheneman enjoyed dinner at Al’s Restaurant at Koontz Lake and then attended the birthday party at the nursing home where Martha met so many of the residents who were so happy to see her as she is now in her own home after spending the winter in the nursing home. Forty-one attended the Oxley family reunion Saturday held at the Whispering Pine Shelter in Potato Creek State Park. Relatives came from far and near. Even Jeff Kronk and family came from North Carolina and surprised everybody and Brian Henry and family also came from Kenosha, Wisconsin. Also Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Lewis, from Joliet, Illinois, were there and NORTH LIBERTY REAL ESTATE AGENCY 903 So. others were from Michigan, Huntington, North Webster and North Liberty area. The reunion will be held same time, same place next year. So happy to see Helen Neidlinger was able to attend morning worship service at the Church of Christ after undergoing knee surgery a few weeks ago. She has been staying at her sons in Michigan City. Congratulations to Calvin and Clara Mae Kronk who celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on Monday, June 26. They reported it was just as hot on that day as it is now. Best wishes from all your relatives and friends. Can you believe that Saturday will be the first day of July? I haven’t even got my spring cleaning done yet. All I got done this past week was water my flowers, garden and lawn. I have managed to keep my lawn green so far, but I hate to think what my water bill will be. It’s Sunday evening and we are getting a little shower now and we got just a little on Saturday evening at this same time, so if it showers every evening, just maybe, I won’t have to water this week. The Lakeville Lions Gub is cosponsors of the fireworks display over Worster Lake on Saturday evening at Potato Creek State Park. The fun begins at 7:30 with the “Jump Start” band performing. Plan now to attend and bring a lawn chair or blanket to sit on. No park fee will be collected between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. for this event. Next Sunday morning the Church of Christ along with Charles Richmond will hold the morning worship service for the campers at Peppermint Hill at 8:30 a.m. You are welcome to attend. Read in the South Bend Tribune where back in 1895 they had a rain shortage also. People were only allowed to water their lawns for two hours in the morning or evening and not to let their faucets run for hours at a time. South Bend

made four new wells and pumped one million gallons of water a day along with four million gallons a day from their old wells. Can you imagine how much water South Bend uses today? It must be in the billions if it took that much back in 1895. Something to think about. We sure do need to be thankful for our water supply. John Sinicki, of South Bend, entertained the residents at Miller’s Merry Manor for those who were celebrating birthdays in June on Sunday afternoon. They were Lois Shetland (85), Vera Klinedinst (92), May Hunke (87), Stella Vanderhoef (90), Goldie Chapman (88). Mildred Feverstein (79), and Pauline Powers (94). The Tri Kappa of Walkerton served refreshments of birthday cake and punch and all having birthdays received a birthday balloon. Received word that by brother-in-law, Charles Sheneman, is very ill and needs our prayers and please remember Mary also. Do you all remember when Amish Acres in Nappanee had their grand opening? It was back in 1970. I still remember going through the twelve room house with no electricity, plumbing or central heating and no cars or tractors. My how that place has grown, with a lovely restaurant, theater, antique building, rides and many other interesting things to see and do. Many tour busses stop in during the year also. I received word from Judith Stoffel, of West Terre Haute that her mother, Marie White (74) had passed away in the hospital in Terre Haute. Marie was a good friend of mine and did live in South Bend until she took ill. I quilted many beautiful quilts for her and I’m really going to miss her as we became very good friends. Are we ever going to have a wonderful Bible school out at the Church of Christ this week, under the direction of Wilda Henry. The theme is God’s Champions. They will meet many sport champions and of course, they will meet Jesus, the head coach. There will also be Teen Bible time June 25 - 29, 6:45 to 9:15 p.m. Grades 7- 9 will be taught by Tim Stewart and grades

We had 166 children last Monday. Just received word that Welcome Miller, a well known man in the area of Tyner and Walkerton, died Sunday in the St. Joseph Hospital, Plymouth. Our sympathy goes to his family as he is going to be greatly missed by all his relatives and friends. He served in so many organizations and was in North Liberty just last week as he helped the Tyner Lodge fry the fish at the United Methodist Church. Mr. and Mrs. Kurt Hunt and family, of Indianapolis, were week-
