4-H Foundation Announces New License Plate Soon, four leaf clovers will be sprouting up all over St. Joseph County — 4-H clovers, that is! The Indiana 4-H Foundation, headquartered in Indianapolis, has announced its participation in the Indiana group recognition license plate program through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles. “With approximately 1,000,000 4-H alumni in the state said Maryanne Denisi, extension educator, “we believe we’ll see many clovers on the roads of our county” Applications for the license plate are available in the St. Joseph County cooperative extension Service office in the County City Building, 6th floor or by calling 235-9604. To begin the process, a car owner must complete an application and send a $25.00 contribution to the Indiana 4-H Foundation. Applicants will receive an authorization from the Foundation which they will use at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles during the month they regularly purchase their plate. Twenty percent of St. Joseph County contributions will be returned by the Foundation to the 4-H program in this county. The funds will be used for 4-H junior leader and adult volunteer leader development and recognition, for 4-H educational materials, and for 4-H promotion and visibility. “This is a great opportunity for us in Indiana to show we care about youth and our belief in the power of 4-H to build leaders, enrich lives, and encourage young people to become caring members of their community,” commented Dr. Maurice Kramer, state leader for Indiana 4-H. Indiana 4-H programs reach over 17,000 young people each year in St. Joseph county where the focus is on “hands-on” learning experiences. Over 100 projects are available for young people ages 3-19 and many programs are being adapted for use as part of school curriculum.
