Basketball and a runner up for Indiana's prestigious title of Mr. Basketball, spoke to the sixth grade class at North Liberty Elementary School recently. His words of encouragement for his audience consisted of the characteristics which have helped Michael to become the well-loved, respected and capable student and ballplayer that he is. Add a large dose of humbleness and a mountain of Faith and you’ll have a good description of his personal character. He shared with the classes the three standards by which he strives to live: 1. Always do your best, and be proud of it I 2. Treat others the way you would like to be treated. 3. Do what is right. He spoke nearly 45 minutes before taking questions from the students and then remained another 10-15 minutes to field their questions. He never referred to his own successes, in fact, the closest he came was in reference to the ‘bonding’ of he and his teammates and the ‘‘rather successful” year they just finished. Others in the room asked a few questions which encouraged him to elaborate on some of the pressures of his position both in and out of the classroom and on and off of the basketball court. Michael answered these questions with composure and thoughtfulness, while following his own three standards effortlessly. Michael was a wonderful inspiration to us all.
At this joyous time of congratulations, we offer our best wishes.

young person reads, he/she will have a chance to win an adventure. Hopefully the adventures will combine both fun and learning. The reader will fill out a “chance” which will be placed in a drawing to be done on August 12, 1995 at the special “For Children Only” booksale at the Main Library. The “Adventures” have been donated by local businesses in cooperation with the library. For example, the reader may enter the contest for a chance at a behind the scenes look at television production or spend time with a D.J. at WNDU, or win Silverhawks or Notre Dame Soccer tickets. The South Bend Tribune has donated the choice of attending a high school football game with reporter Curt Rallo or a Notre Dame football practice with Al Lesar and find out how they cover these events. It could even be a fun experience like a work-out session at a health spa or a beauty makeover at a local salon or an adventure at the Potawatomi Zoo. The “Choose Your Adventure” reading program will begin on June 5 and continue through August 5, 1995. Children can register for the program at all St. Joseph County Public Library branches and deposit for the program at all St. Joseph County Public Library branches and deposit sites as well as the Main Library Fiction Information desk on the second floor or
