First graders in Mrs. Ann CambH pin’s class at North Liberty ElemHentary School have had the enMriching experience of writing to -penpals in Tongola, Australia. Mrs. Downey’s first-second grade ■classroom from “down under” called us their “penfriends.” We hope to receive a response a second Htime before school adjourns, but i^just in case we don’t, we’ve inHcluded our home addresses to keep ■the lines of communication open. i Tongola’s fall semester began ■approximately three months ago, Hand they are approaching an AustHralian winter. It’s fascinating for ■ the North Liberty Elementary ■youngsters to realize the difference ■in the seasons of the two countries; ■to study the different animals ■native to that continent; and to ■ acknowledge that their penpals are ■ awake when they are asleep! H F rom left to right are four of the Htwenty classmates taking part in ■the exchange: Matthew Stichter, H Katrina Sheneman, James Kemble Hand Alyssa Davis. The two teachers would like to H share a “cuppa” together one day. H Hopefully, they too, can remain ■ penfriends for a long time to come. R.E.A.L.
